I believe that's how comptech sets up their oil returns out of the box for Paxton blowers, so I think it's fine.

In a supercharger the oil is only lubricating the gears and large ball bearings as opposed to tight tolerance journal bearings or small ball bearings that are in a turbo. I would imagine it's much less picky about oil quality/pressure/etc than a turbo setup would be.

The reason that this works without any issue is due to the filling cavity of the gearbox that the supercharger has. The fist-size cartridge of a turbocharger has no room for error if it were ever "back-flow" up the drain hose. There's enough volume within a Vortech gearbox that it would need to fill the interval volume before any pressure began acting upon any oil seals.

I've ran this type of setup on all my supercharged cars, so easily YEARS of operation like this with no issues at all.

Glad I came across this thread to help identify what I need for my installation this weekend. My local speed shop (Jung Performance) had these pieces on the shelf, but in alternate brands.

Fitting to the oil pan:
871408 (XRP brand)

Fitting with 45° angle fitting to the hose:
1045-08-2 (Red Horse Performance brand)
