Always wanted this hardtop but hated that it was not hinged. I recently got it and here is my concept on the hinge. This is everything bolted up but not yet cleaned up and painted and covered in suede.

why hasn't someone made this top a legit hatch? Like, cut the trunk up and mold it to the hatch, so it lifts up with the rear section?

That would make it infinitely better, as you would be able to use it to actually store stuff, like a real hatch.

probably cause of all the work involved and expenses i think the hinge concept is fine the way it is
not to mention if you do it wrong you'll have to buy more parts, and maybe people like to take the top off once in awhile and ride around top down. i only have the hardtop on for winter, i can't wait to drive top down again

I thought about molding the rear section to the trunk because I have an extra rear piece that I wanna do something with. BUT, I would have to buy a carbon fiber trunk and also every time I rode with the top off Id have to change the trunk. So the only case that it would benefit really is on the track, and for cool points too. haha

Zerodragon.. Man to be honest I dont even know what I got the hinges off of. But thanks
