[QUOTE=illini71,Jul 31 2004, 06:54 AM] There's actually one more I use to store a couple things, such as the owner's manual.

Bought my car in July from a dealer in Ft Collins, CO... used... drove up after work in my POS trade in... got there late cuz of traffic but the dealer wanted to make the sale so he waited for me... I signed the papers and we both took off in different directions... only took about fifteen minutes!

I drove about one block before I looked at the gas tank and thought I should stop for gas... Yeah... chalk me up for another S driver opening as many parts of the S as I knew existed BEFORE reading this thread and still scratching my head!!!!

I had the dealer's cell number... (of course...) so I called to find out where the stupid button was for the gas cap... His perplexity irritated me since I had about 1/16th of a tank and had to drive three hours home and it was seven thirty at night... Course I didn't know about the secret compartment and now that I do know about it I'm SURE that my owner's manual is in there... I ordered one already though... just haven't received it... I'll be ticked when I find it in the Secret Compartment!

Ended up calling a Honda dealership... thank God they were still open... The guy I talked to laughed at me though... Kinda hurt my feelings!

Anyway... I can hardly wait to go back out to my car after work today and find that compartment... and my owner's manual...!

Thanks for this!

Jewel

Give it a very thorough read, Jewel. There's much to learn, I guarantee it. And, BTW, welcome to the owner's club!! You have some wonderful roads to explore out there in CO, but unfortunately you have extremely overbearing police as well.

Anyway, -- greetings from New ENgland.

Preciate!

but FYI... I don't usually have problems with the cops...

Roads are great.. I'm taking it to Kansas to show it to my sister this weekend... first 'trip' I've taken in it... won't be the last... I can hardly stand to get out of it long enough to fill the gas tank... (now that I know how to do that)

I don't think the previous owner knew about it either since the owner's manual and warranty stuff was still in it and looked pristine. I requested the dealership get me the manual (and tonneau cover) from the previous guy. He came up with the cover but never turned in the manual. The dealership got me a new one. Now I've got two!

If you think you need a 6 speed to have to push down to get into reverse, you've never driven an older VW bug. My 1963 4 speed bug was push-to-get-reverse. Nothing new.

Ran out to my car after work... Sure enough... Owner's Manual, former owner's proof of insurance... registration... purchase invoice... everything was in that hidden compartment! I was thrilled... Now I can finally understand my car.... It seems to understand me pretty well already... must go faster...

I've only met a few cops in passing...

I pass them and they pull me over... mostly just to chat... we usually chat for about fifteen minutes after which they apologise for holding me up and let me go... nothing special... has nothing to do with my blonde hair... I'm sure... j/k I've been ticketed.... once....

I read that a couple of you guys have had a disc changer installed... did they hook it up to the controls at the left of the steering wheel? I went to Sunshine Audio and they told me that they wouldn't be able to do that... I'd have to forgo using those controls for that... Are they feeding me a line...? I wouldn't know...

So you are hot! The one time you got ticketed was from a female cop eh? J/k.

The radio and stuff really should be posted as a separate issue in the ELECTRONICS forum. You'll get better response that way... but to answer your question about dash controls, you need a DCI from lucidautomotive. Details in electronics forum, or PM me.
