[DIY] Protecting the rear plastic window
Hi guys,
I performed a little but useful modification on the back of my S to prevent my plastic window to be scratched as it rubs against the back plastic.
To prevent these scratches, I decided to apply a very smooth piece of felt (not sure for the english word)...I found it in Ikea
4€ and sufficient to perform this modification on 3 S2000s!
What you need:
-A little screwdriver just in case protected with some tape to avoid scratches on the plastic
-Doubled-sided tape (thx to Google for translation ), I choosed this instead of glue.
-A smooth piece of felt, I choosed the reference Polarvide in Ikea, in black of course
-Good scissors
-Patience
You have to first remove the rear plastic where the window is lying on when top down (don't know how you call it exactly). There are 11 steples to remove to get it out.
Once done, it should look like this:
Let's see closer:
As you can see, this is dirty, so you'll have to clean it before applying the felt. I used Meguiar's APC to perform the job.
Then you'll have to apply the felt to prepare the cut step:
Once the cut step done, you should apply the double sided-tape everywhere so the felt is stable and doesn't move:
Finally, you should apply the felt to fix it, then you can refine the cutouts.
It is not the final shot, you can see air bubbles but I corrected it before putting it back in the car.
I only left a little felt margin on the front and the back so other plastics that come on this piece show a perfect fintion.
That's all, you're done!!!
It is now 2 months that I've done it, no new scratches on my window, that's exactly what I expected!
