Everyone is saying it. Find a used oem exhaust locally. Maybe $150.
Have a local muffler shop do the UK mod. Its a simple muffler bypass pipe that gets welded to the front side of each muffler. It allows some of the gas to bypass most of the muffler. Larger bypass pipe = louder. Should cost less than $50.
Do a youtube search on S2000 UK mod. Listen for which size bypass pipe you like the sound of. Guessing you'd like 38 mm.
Sell system you have now. Will probably break even or perhaps end up with a small profit.

could also be related to the amount of air being pushed out, but im running about 13 psi through a blower and the combo of the test pipe and q300 is considerably quiter than the berk cat w/ megan racing single i was running prior.
I should also point out that im a stroked 2.2 to 2.4, and displacement can absolutely change exhaust tone. But on my 2.4 I absolutely love the sound of it

Ahhhh ok yeah that makes a pretty huge difference. On basically stock cars that exhaust has been really raspy and drones with a test pipe. Also not surprised it was quieter than that single.

I have a Tanabe Medalion, and after 3 years of use, its actually getting too droney for me at times. At startup its annoying, with an unbelievably low frequency, similar to the constant bass you hear out of a subwoofer. It penetrates any and every wall. My parents told me as I approached their house, the cups in their cabinet were vibrating against each other because of the deep exhaust tone (no joke). I have to start the car and immediately start going otherwise I piss off my neighbors.
This wasn't always the case. The first year of owning the exhaust, it was perfect - no drone at all and while it was deep, it wasn't subwoofer sounding. I've heard my exhaust slowly change tone over the years - and as the packing in the exhaust broke down after some years of daily driving, I now have drone particularly in the 2.5-3.5k RPM area. I find when the day is colder it isn't as prevalent, however when it is warm out it gets pretty bad. I am using a HFC, and while I've heard a TP alleviates much of the drone, however I'm unwilling to go without a cat so I'm just sucking it up for now.
I'm thinking about either cutting the exhaust open and adding more packing in (which apparently is pretty unusual to do for cars in my research - more common for motorcycles), going back to OEM and maybe doing the UK mod (and probably losing the ability to track at Leguna Seca), or getting the Fujitsubo exhaust (although I have the same concerns about the packing burning off and developing similar issues).
The only exhausts that I have read do not use packing are the $3k Amuse exhausts, which are way out of my price range. I'm unsure if there are anymore - if anyone knows, please chime in!
I haven't found any topics on S2Ki discussing aftermarket exhaust tone/drone changes after years of use.
However if your s2k is not a DD you can throw everything I just said out the window.
Right as I finished writing this, I just realized you insinuated you have a TP. If that's the case, I'm not sure if you'll have the same issues I do - however I figured I'd post anyway in case anyone else wants to read my experience.

Kram in a Cab have you checked the condition on your HFC?
If the substrate inside has started crumbling and failing it might affect your exhaust note as well.
It is most likely the packing in your mufflers like you are telling but before cutting it up might be worth to check the cat.

Was thinking why not try the Vibrant’s universal Ultra Quiet (silent?) resonator they make. Weld that in where you have space and see how much noise that removes and go from there. I have the TypeL model though so Metal is super thin, so might not be a solution for me but could work for thicker, 409 metal (older) model HKS pipes.
Maybe someone else has feedback on how good Vibrant’s solution is.
