What to put inside the cup holder?
I have a bunch of junk in there. A small Harbor Freight flashlight. A box of mints. My garage door opener. Spare batteries for my radar detector. My phone goes in there...
If you're looking for interesting things to do, it's pretty easy to hijack the cruise control switches for other purposes. They both put out +12v when pressed and they work with the ignition on or off. The only difficulty is they get power through the horn relay, so you can't pull much current from them or else the horn will honk. If you use a low-current relay with a 1000-ohm coil you can operate it directly from the cruise controls, but if you need to use a heavier-duty relay you'll have to use a transistor to trigger it.
Note that later models that have 3 cruise buttons still only have 2 switches - the center switch just activates both at once.

Does anyone know how the latching lid of the ap2 cup holder is designed? I want to design something that will also replace the coin slot and function just like the ap2 assembly, if it's not too difficult.
