Default NASA H1 rule question

HC H1 S2000's can you use the headlight as a ram air? I've noticed a
few H1 S2ks using the passenger headlight area as a ram air. As I read
the HC rules it says that non-limited prep H1's can do this, but the S2k
is a limited prep, so the H1-H5 rules should apply, and those rules do
not allow it.

Since my Pass headlamp was shashed when I crashed, I can save $ by
making it a ram air, and sell my intake. If not I'll be replacing the lense
somehow.

I am sort of guessing there is a better technique since none of the west coast guys have holes in their headlights, but....... I did it to my old car (the red S2000) and John did it to his white one.

For my yellow car that I am building I am just using a K&N down in the bumper (at least I think I am)....

to answer your question though, yes you may use the headlight hole....you can take the entire headlight out if you like, but with the S2000 it has to create problems at speed....???

you can sort of see my butcher job on the passenger side...

well, not the way I read the rule book. In the h1 section it says you can, but in the limitied prep section, it says use the H1-H5 ruleset unless noted.

Am I wrong?

I probably won't because I want to keep mine street legal, but at least I'd have a choice.

I'd take a 125mph ram air over the aero loss anyday.

i don't have the rules, but I know mine, JFO's and EFFECTS old H1 S2000 all had holes in the headlights.....

I was saying if you remove the headlight completely you may have a aerodynamic problem..... cutting light is different.

ps.... can't imagine a street legal competetive H1 S2000..... post some pics when you get it closer. I am picking up my yellow car early next week.

Allen,

Sorry to hear about your mishaps at NASA Nats but it looks like we gained another track car.

Also sorry I didn't have the spare parts you needed but at least you got them in time.

The next thing you have to worry about is the front suspension spot welds giving up so get those seam welded. There should be an old article in here somewhere.

On to the headlight rules. It is definitely legal to cut out ONE headlight for intake purposes. I don't have the rules in front of me either but there is a section towards the back which is H1 only and it superceeds all other Honda Challenge rules in the case that they conflict. I found out you can also cut venting holes in a stock or aftermarket hood for engine cooling if you are so inclined.

Good luck,

John

Umm, reading the rulebook that doesn't look to be the case - or at least it's not clear.

s2000's are restricted prep HC cars.

According to page 11, Rule 9.1 line d

"Restricted Preparation Vehicles must follow the preparation rules in section 7 Allowed Modifications (H1-H5) except where stated otherwise."

next paragraph says what RPV's can due in excess to H1-H5

[B]9.2 Restricted Preparation Vehicles Only
a) Batteries are unrestricted as to type, size, voltage, and weight as OEM provided it installed in the original OEM location.
b) Restricted Preparation Vehicles may use any metal wheel (subject to 7.12

so don't put the ****ing hole in the headlight.... we have already told you about 8 times that it is legal.....

There are no west coast H1 S2000's......They all moved to Honda Cup.
