Here's another issue to consider whether it requires a rule or not. Would you be able to replace OEM '00-'01 springs with OEM '02 springs, which I understand are stiffer, without incurring any points?

(or is this allowed under cheating bastard rules? )

I agree with rlaifatt about the springs, so I lowered them to 15. I think we should allow '02 springs since the car is relatively unchanged otherwise.

Re. JZR, I moved the cat-back exhaust and X-brace into STOCK.

I also upped PRODUCTION points to 200 because I see that many people are wanting to get coilovers as their shocks wear out. Many of them, if they're like me, won't want to run in unlimited (read "unlimited budget") so I feel they ought to be accomodated.

All these moves have upped the modifications level allowed in the lower three classes. I also added provisions for "built" motors and sequential tranmissions, re-gearing, etc.

I'm here now: spec tires 50, wheels 20, sway bar 15, flywheel 10 = 95 (MOD), but I'm adding CAI and VTEC controller, putting me in production. If I get coilovers eventually I can max out production at 200 pts exactly (wow, look how that worked out!) and not have to keep doing more and buying hoosiers. So I like the above system.

Checking...

Stock + shocks/springs + spec tires + hardtop + intake + vafc + swaybar + flywheel = 200 pts.

However, if I sell my COMPTECH lowering springs and use 02 model springs with koni shocks I can run Hoosiers (or slicks) for the same 200 pts. 50 pts seems a high price to pay for an essentially cosmetic mod. Not that is matters 'cause I can't really afford to run Hoosiers anyway...

It is a pretty high penalty. Would you be willing to word "springs" as other that stock rates? The COMPTECH springs are stock rates with an adjustable perch. I'm not sure ride height alone is worth 50 points.

I can live with it.

you can run production or mod till you can't keep up

Production is really where i'd expect to find most of us MOD-R regulars from the 02 season

02 and konis would be just shocks. I believe 02 springs are allowed.

and the 50 point price tag is meant for coilovers.

Erik,

As JZR pointed out, we can't start having different points for different versions of specific mods. So if you have stock rate comptech lowering springs and Koni shocks, it's just bad luck. Things would get ridiculously complicated. This is going to happen as we change classing: that some people's choices aren't best for the new classing. Under the new system this is true for me because I would have been better off staying in MODIFIED next year, but I decided to get a CAI to chase down Hayashi with this year (since the bastard has one). That CAI puts me in PRODUCTION next year, but gets me nowhere near the 200 points allowed. So be it.

Doug,

Lots of people are getting coilovers, and modifying their cars more and more, pushing them into unlimited, which I think is a bad idea. It shouldn't be too easy to reach that class, it should take some serious spending. Also, we wanted to reduce the number of classes from 5 to 4 to increase competition. This new system isn't particularly working out for me either as I mentioned above, but maybe in '04 I can get near the max points if I start losing. In the mean time, I'm going to have to run well under points in PRODUCTION and still kick everyone's sorry-ass asses in a huge big-ass way (no reference intended to the size of my ass).

Production class could now suffer from this killer combo. (Bench Race mode on) Cheating Bastards would have a heyday.

For points
Supercharger
Toyo RA1s on stock wheels
Shocks (stock springs but cut for lower ride height and increased spring rate)
Swaybar
185pts
+
free mods
Air/Fuel Controller
Ingnition Controller
Piggy back signal modifiers
Any differential
TB
Big brakes (not listed)
dump 200+lbs
X-Brace
straight pipe (and no cats)
Intake gasket
All the cooling mods (themostat, switch, cap)
Full cage
Aggressive alignment
Buckets
Brake ducts
Any emissions equipment modification

food for thought. A noob might even be competetive with a car like this. Also, when you say stock, does that exclude JDM stock? JDM wheels alone save 4lbs a corner but are stock sizes and offset.

Oh yeah, forgot to include the Nitrous Bottle and undersized tires (which will create an actual Final Ratio increase for free) in the above list
