I'm pretty sure you would have to update everything to 06+ ie motor trans etc... So technically yes... But not really worth it IMO.

Yep

The only thing that has to be a complete assembly is the long block and transmission. The rest is open to piecemeal.

Thats what I thought! So I can't think of one downfall of starting with a ap1 chassis vs a ap2. Anyone really thought about the negatives of each chassis besides with the ap2 you dont have to do a motor swap. It's cheaper buying a $2500 motor swap then it is to spend $5k on a theft recovery car and sourcing parts for it.

I emailed Urge asking what they can do power wise given the rule set. I'm very interested in what they have to say.

On the topic of updating to an 06+ motor in anything but an 06+, etc ... This is much more difficult than I originally thought. My original plan was to put a 06+ motor in my AP1. After talking with someone who regularly parts out S2000s and pricing everything, I realized it's easier to buy an 06. Many little items are different. The 04-05 swap into an AP1 is much easier.

Yea you definitely want an 04-05 F22 if you're putting it in an AP1. It's a direct swap and since standalones are allowed, tuning it with an AEM or Haltech is straighforward.

That's the plan! Not sure If its smarter/cheaper to buy a whole longblock and rebuild it or buy a short block from Honda and a used head off s2ki since I will send the head for porting and buy ITBs for a intake. Buying a full long block would be cheaper but then I wouldn't have a brand new bottom end. Hmm

My current plan is to try and source a long block locally that I can have checked out prior to purchase but my fallback is used head (from somewhere) + new short block through Honda HPD.

So basicly the same ideal as me! I'll tune with a Haltech PnP. Keeping a eye on this thread, I'll be joining you all in 2014. Pave me a easy road to follow with great documentation like everyone did in STR.

While we're on the topic on engine swaps and the like, is there any REAL disadvantage to running an AP1? In STR it seems it's a toss up between AP1 vs AP2V1 vs AP2V2 vs CR.

Just wondering,

a 10% disadvantage in displacement. You could probably build a F20 and get 90% of the power (maybe) but the first race you loss by sub .2 seconds your going to be questioning why you didn't spend the money for the swap. I'm at 166k on my AP1 and will probably be at 190K by the time I go BSP. A new motor for me is a must, mise well do it right the first time. Everything on my car is basicly brand new besides the engine and trans.

Have we came to a conclusion on the ap2 motor mounted to a ap1 trans yet? Can it be done legally? What exactly is the issue?

I'm still so lost on wheel/tire size to go with but I guess we have plenty of time to figure it out before I buy some.

What can we do to reduce fuel starve without having to run a full tank? With the ap2 cars I think we can run them pretty low without starving right? Is there a difference in the gas tank design? Possible swap them?
