Not trying to tell you what to do, but keep in mind early acceleration is much more valuable than another mph or two top speed in 2nd. I dealt with this in AS/BS (AP1 vs AP2 gearing) and the datalog showed the most time was gained from early acceleration. (obviously other factors are involved) 60 mph will be enough for most National courses. We will be well above that mark.

which 295 are we talking about here. one 295 measures taller and wider then the 285. the other much taller and slightly narrower

Im talking about the 285/30/18 vs the 295/30/18. I doubt the 295/40/18 would fit. All were within a tenth " on section width. Both 295s are measured smaller on the "tread width" than the 285 and all measured on a 10" wheel FWIW.

Oh well. I went with 295 on 11" and 315 on 11.5
Ap1 trans is in, e85 system is ready for tune. Just need to get rear back together

Have you actually fitted the wheels yet. Based on how ours fit get your sawzall ready! You will have to flare the rears substantially, trim the bumper sand move the mounting tab and likely run a higher ride height

Ap1 tranny in an AP2? What did you do with the different sized holes for the bolts for the drive shaft?

fronts seem to fit fine, rolled and pulled. rears are going to need a lot more for sure, will get pictures going soon as i put the rear subframe back in.
As for ap2 engine to ap1 tranny, its pretty simple, had some shims made to take up the 10mm extra space in my driveshaft coupling, then used ap1 8mm bolts, will see if they hold up, but hey all ap1's last with 8mm so it should be fine

What ion earth did you have the subframe out for? Fuel pump?

Fuel Cell? Knowing Robert, he probably found some great weight reduction mod that he will soon sell to the rest of us!
