00-01 Ap1 chassis is the lightest and most precise handler, f22 is a tighter tolerance motor with upgraded valve train, it makes more power per rpm. The f22 is especially best in FI applications and an ap1 flywheel when revving it to 9k. Which would you take... a f20 or a f22 which revs to 9k? The ap2 trans and rear end is superior also. Hybrid FTW. Thread/

I launch at 7500 - 8000rpm. After dropping the clutch she drops to about 6200rpm. So im still in vtec. Ive tried all variations of launching and this works the best. You get a little spin but the car catapults forward. If you launch at 6000rpm or lower you launching out of Vtec and you'll get murdered in a drag.

I do have a stage 4 clutch though and a 4,57 FD. This combination makes for killer launches! Ive launched against many other cars and Im hardly ever behind after first. The 4wd scoobs are the only ones that can grab me.

Ap2 is the neutered version of the Ap1 it looks the same but has no balls.

I will admit in a 1/4 mile the ap2 is DEFINITELY way easier to launch than an ap1. But everywhere else i like the ap1. It's a no brainer that the F22 should make more power, nearly the same specs with a 10% increase in displacement.

I've driven both my 01, an 08, and an 05. The ap2's have a much better transmission, that's for sure. Which Honda obviously knew because they upgraded it for that car. But in a drag race? I'd give the win to the ap2 every time if he could drive. The power output seems hit or miss though. Just like ap1's i see ap2's trapping 95-96 sometmes, othertimes 99-101.

Mine trapped 98 in the 1/4.

I think most of those low trap speeds are from the launch where they're not staying in vtec. Compared to newer Honda engines like the K20, the f20 is utterly anemic before vtec. It doesn't have enough torque to overcome tire grip most of the time.

that's true.
AP2's are So much easier to handle & drive at the limit.

i'm running F20C with AP2 trans. & i'd have to admit AP2 transmission is awesome

for everyone's reference,
the BEST 1/4 mile time of any bone stock s2000 year 00-09 is the SAME.

I think i would have had to launch off the 9000 rev limiter and rode the clutch out to run a 13 anything when i went the other night.

Launching at 8k and riding the clutch out holding it around 6k cutting a 2.12 60 ft got me a 14.42 @ 98 mph.

The car is just utterly anemic outside vtec. It's way too lacking on torque.

Just like anyone else who has owned both an AP2 and an AP1, the AP2 is obviously the superior car.

The AP1 isn't that much more wild at its limits. I think a lot of drivers that say this haven't actually been able to drive both cars to their full potential.

There's always that AP2 that ran a 13.3 @ 102mph with just minor bolt-ons that no one can touch:
