Awww yeah
I was feeling rather spirited during a 20 minute drive down 35E North this evening when a Mustang rolled up. It had the Cobra side emblems and rear bumper. I'm not a big fan of the 2000 Mustangs, but this one looked very sweet. It had stylish rims and a really beautiful exhaust note, not just the normal raspy sound from some aftermarket units. But I digress...
He rolled past me 3 times, obviously wanting to race. I get this type of challenge pretty often and usually pass on the opportunity fearing the law. This was a stretch of highway I've driven on many times and was very familiar with so I decided to go for it if he challenged me again. My top was down and the wind was nasty as hell...
He accelerated past me for a 4th time at about 75 mph, I was going about 70. I looked at the road. All clear for as far as the eye could see.
I dropped it into 3rd for the few seconds before I hit redline. I started to gain. I smacked it into fourth, the Mustang hit the throttle, but hard. The sound from this car was beautiful.
I wasn't gaining on him. I hear him shift. I can only guess it was 5th gear as we were hitting 80. I'm beginning to hit VTEC in 4th and starting to gain. By 90, I'm at his door. By 95, I'm passing him.
At this point I slow down as does the venerated Mustang. We wave to each other and I exit on Northwest Highway.
Exhilarating experience. I have a new found respect for the Cobra Mustangs. They'll spank us every time from a dead stop, but from a rolling start.... wheee-ha!
Much fun

mustangs are pretty much slow all around now, but the cobras got some decent game, and super charged 5.0 Gt's are pretty nice too.. hell if he was driving a cobra, he could take 3rd up to about 90-100. cool race tho.
