Can I say that I own a learjet JRM? Will that offend people if I say that? I actually do own an airplane, it is a Bowers FlyBaby, if anyone knows what that is. It isn't in flying condition at the moment, the wings need recovered and the landing gear fixed. I could get a learjet decal though and stick it on the side!

S2Ken,

Here is some referenced data to support my claims.
Your "retains more value" Porsche cleans out your wallet by close to four grand in the first twelve months of ownership! If you or anyone paid over sticker, thats their poor choice. We all get near the same dollar when its time to sell.

The real numbers on the Porsche versus Honda Depreciation

2000 Honda S2000 2 Dr STD Convertible
$32,740 MSRP
Trade-In Private Party Dealer Retail
Base Price $26,302 $28,549 $30,623

Owner out $6,438 first year in depreciation.

2000 Porsche Boxster 2 Dr STD Convertible
$42,865 MSRP

Trade-In Private Party Dealer Retail
Base Price $32,603 $34,282 $35,830

Owner out $10, 262 first year in depreciation "ouch"

Source: Edmunds.com

Sorry Kenny, even in the Boxster (non "S" type) your out an extra
$3824 in the first year of owning your Porsche,

If you paid over MSRP for your Boxster, your even more screwed.

Now to your observations that the Germans don't look at the Japanese in this sports class, your not too well read on the automotive marketplace are you? You really don't think that these two cars are the same competitive class? Pick up a magazine, Road and Track, Motor Trend, Autoweek, Car and Driver. Look at the comparisons. All of these cars beefed up their engine's in reaction to the S2000 (BMW, Porsche, Mercedes). This is not my opinion, its the automotive press such as Daniel Carney, Automotive critic who published Honda S2000 ISBN 0-7603-03-0906. He is not a Honda employee, just an auto critic, with input from editors from Car and Driver, Road and Track, etc., in the book.

The class includes cars such as Porsche Boxster, BMW Z3, Chevy Corvette, Mazda Miata, Mercedes SLK320 and Toyota MR2. You can bet your dollars that every auto company watches every car from any competitor long before it reaches the first auto show in prototype form. The same Honda team that built the Acura NSX also built the Honda S2000. You don't believe Porsche looks at Acura?

Please do some reading before you post such goofy stuff.

Why would you pay over MSRP for a Porsche? The dealers can't charge over MSRP. I certainly didn't pay over MSRP for mine. There are "number" like you quote from Edmunds and then there is reality, which is what you find in your local paper, on Ebay, at dealers, etc. that cars are really selling for. For the first 2 years of the Boxster's existence, used Boxsters were going for more than new. Sure, 5 years into a car line the results will be different, let's see what the results are 5 years into the S2000 line. Or wait, weren't Honda dealers telling some prospective customers that the car would only be made for 2 or 3 years?

WRT competition, what I said was that German automakers compete amongst themselves first and foremost, do they compete with others? Sure, they compete with everyone, but others to a lesser degree. BMW, Audi, Porsche and Mercedes are going to react to each other's changes first before reacting to Toyota, Honda or Yugo...

You really made me chuckle by lumping the Miata in with the Corvette, yeah I know a LOT of buyers that had both of those cars on their shopping list....

I'm glad magazines are full of "goofy" stuff, it helps them sell more copies, don't forget about that 2 headed Toyota driver that set the land speed record while chasing a vision of Jesus giving Elvis the Holy Grail, I know it's true, I read it in the National Midnight Star!

S2Ken,

Man, your a piece of work. I did not put the Miata with Corvette, its the total car competitive class I referenced in the book.
Read my post again and again. You may just comprehend the words. Did you even obtain your GED?

When presented with accurate numbers that show your foolish claim that the Boxster holds more of its value than a S2000, you make up other foolish claims and other attacks like a grade school kid that got bullied too much. I paid under MSRP for my Honda at Vern Eidie Honda in Sioux Falls, SD, who is a HONDA/MB dealer that does not charge over MSRP.

Have fun with your poorly written post. Invest some of your tons of money in a degree. End of discussion.

O.K. Hemingway

Nothing stated about grammer, just an understanding that my post was in reference to a book, in which the author defines competitors of the S2000. The subjects of this car class are not my opinion.

don't be putting down the sol, just because you're all high and mighty with your wanna be F60... I can't imagine a denver ferrari dealer getting 4 that quickly... you're pissing me off.... I realize that your post most likely had absolutely NOTHING to do with the sol, I just needed some grounds to post about how agravating this whole discussion is... SHUT THE HELL UP... I'd buy a porsche if I had the money... not because I like the way people think of me in it, but because the car is a beautiful and I like it... I'd buy an S2000 if I could afford, because the car is beautiful, and I like it... I'd buy a 360 modena if I could afford it, but if I could afford it, I'd have already bought the fore mentioned vehicles.. just let them own the car they own, they'er all beautiful works of art and by talking about them in this manner you're only degrading yourself and your cars view of you... so stand up, stop sitting on a pole, and move on with your life to something that people care about other than why you think that boxsters are bad or boxsters are the best... geez
