Hmmmm...

I've been able to watch (from a few feet off their bumpers) many Boxsters and S2000s on the track and I would have to say that the mid-engined Boxster is the better handling car, even given the disparity in driving skills between the various drivers.

I've never personally driven a Boxster but I have driven my Father's S2000 and while not being very torquey it's a fun car to drive.

JRM,
Don't you have something to tell the folks here?

BTW, it looks like the Boxster S is going to get the 3.4L engine from the 911 in 2003, so yes, the competition in roadsters does keep pushing manufacturers to up the ante with regard to their cars. Folks with 3.4 conversions in their Boxsters now are getting between 315 and 320 hp. That would be sweet....

well it is about time porsche up the hp on the boxster. the current engine is pretty inefficient. esp when considering bmw gets 330 out of its m3 and 315 out of its roadster both a 3.2 liter engine. question is since porsche just upped hp about 30% does thast mean price is now 30% higher for car. I bet. That would push the boxster to over 70,000. Not that I could even afford this years boxster s. bmw does their roadster for 44,000 gm does the vette for 46,000 and honda does the s2000 for 32,740. What does porsche do over there. treat all employees to lunch of cavier and lobster everyday!!!!! looks like the bmw M ROADSTER more and more is my choice for next car. At what point do porsche boxster wanna be owners simply say ill pass over the boxster and buy the real and legendary 911 for a bit more.

Well if you knew anything about Porsche's you would know that the 3.2L in the Boxster S and the 3.4 or 3.6 in the 911 are all based on the same design. The tranny in the Boxster S is the same as the 911 which is a very efficient tranny, read less hp loss to the wheels than say a front engine rear drive combination. The S 3.2L can easily be upped to 300hp with only a couple of modifications (remove factory purposefully restricted headers, add fresh air intake and reprogram the CPU to adjust for the new intake/exhaust) all while maintaining the factory warranty and keeping the compression the same. The 911 has a more free flowing exhaust and intake so it has more ponies out of the factory and of course comes in the ultimate bad boy twin turbo version.

I don't understand your comment that it is about time that Porsche upped the hp on the Boxster. Porsche did so in 2000 both by introducing the Boxster S and by changing the base 2.5 liter to a 2.7 liter with more hp. Your lack of Porsche knowledge is showing, becareful not to hurt yourself and inflame your agrammatica again.

Remember, there is no subtitute!

JRM,
Apology accepted! Don't sweat it, we settled in in email so I wholeheartedly accept your apology and admission that you were in error. Remind me to send you the info on the Ferrari 360 Spider as well.

Have a good one everyone!

can you read you obviously need to read a thread before you reply.... I will help you since you are so lazy as not to scroll up and read them

BTW, it looks like the Boxster S is going to get the 3.4L engine from the 911 in 2003, so yes, the competition in roadsters does keep pushing manufacturers to up the ante with regard to their cars. Now that is what you said. It is going to get a new engine based on the 911. I stated that because of the new engine that you say is coming out that the already to high price of the car is going to get higher pushing it out of its price range into the 911 range. You did not respond to anything I said but tried to twist it and make me look bad. lets stick to the topic shall we. You have enough enemies on this sight. dont use symantics to make me one as well. When I say it is about time I mean the competition ie m roadster vette already are in the 300+ hp. a small change for low 200's in the boxster to 250 to the s is insignificant compared to the hp of the competition. Thus it is about time means to seriously compete with vette/m roadster and so on in a h/p war that porsche is getting serious and the price tag will reflect it. and then i said that compared to others in the class that porsche is overpriced compared to current models and low on h/p. Is it clear now s2ken. is it possible to just respond to my statements.

So Since you are slow I will sum it up. Is porsche putting this engine in the boxster going to out price itself and push people towars a 911 and thus lose sales for the s boxster. please respond to this and try to look objectively and not take it personal since you own an s

Ken,

Why are you even here? You don't own or aspire to own an S2000 & prefer the Boxster S - can't argue w/ your choice, but wouldn't your time be better wasted @ a Porsche/Ferrari board? I know about the Boxster S's advantages, don't need to read 'em over and over again. BTW, how exactly are you planning to pay for and even get Ferrari to lease you that F60? Just curious, since most folks w/ that kind of cash are too busy to waste their time on such trivial pursuits as this thread and some of your other lengthy ramblings on this board.
