If you already have one, I'd keep it unless it had high miles. The RX7 will be a tad faster stock and if you have kept good care of it, definitely a gem.

Now if I had to choose between a new S2000 and used RX7, I'd get the S2000.

But If it were a new RX7 and a new S2000, I'd get the RX7.

Both are really sweet cars!

They were always loved...the stratospheric price (at least until they lowered it by $10K+ in '97), increasing difficulty w/ meeting emissions reqs. ('96 was auto only b/c of this), and Boxster/C5 hype as those cars were released all contributed to its demise. I'd guess that after the price reduction, Toyota wasn't making enough profit to justify continued production at its very low production levels. Just about everyone who experiences these cars, though, is pretty damn impressed.

WIth an RX-7 YOU DO.... You DUMP 10k into your S2k and let him do the same.. who do you think is gonna win...

You want mad power? It could be done on almost any car. First car on my list below is a ford taurus: 4-dr, fwd, 3600 lb. (empty) w/over 400 whp that pulls on BPUed supra's, RX's, 300's, etc. on the freeways. BUT twisties, I'll get wrapped around a tree - no amount of money fixed that problem. Oh, and no 1/4 - I was spinning my wheels half way through the track, so we won't discuss my times.
I "borrowed" my friend's '90 civic for 2 weeks. 1.6 Vtec all-motor (lsd/bolt-on's only) that was running mid-13's. Street races in SF, I dominated! Most fun I had in a car. BUT that was all that car was good for, in the city.
My friend's got an RX that beat my SHO on the freeway. I know the rx got close to 1g's on the skidpad so it hadles great too. A very well-rounded car BUT problems and reliablity - but hey! he stills drives it everyday... 9-12mpg. ouch..Oh, I think he got 14mpg once! He is looking for that economy car but the gas money from the rx is preventing it.
I SCed my S2K and is faster than before but the power will not compare to an RX. Althought the S2K will go faster LONGER than a rotory.
Try to get lucky and drive an S2K and I mean DRIVE IT! Take it 9K and try to bring the rear wheels out in front... And then try it again with the top down. The car's either gonna feel right or it's not. Everyone has different tastes. Who knows, this one might be your flavor.

P.S. For the first two weeks, it never gets cold with the top down, NEVER!

This thread is still going on? Seeing the 2 side by side I like the RX7 better although the S2K is sweet. I have to drive one some day to compare the 2 cars.

Acceleration: RX-7
Looks and Reliability: S2000
Handling: ???

To me, reliability was a huge factor when buying a car. I talked to a RX7 owner who said he has dumped more money on repairs than he paid for the car. Thats why I never considered the Mazda.

RX7 or S2000? Is all up to you and what you like.
RX7 vs. S2000? You cant even compare the two....completely different categories...An RX7 is a monster in everyway possible, its a super car, 1.03g lateral acceleration from the factory( for a 1993 model). Mazda made the first and only japanese car to win the LeMans with a rotary engine. An S2000 is a really nice car , but it would never be even close to an RX7 in any way.

Well, I own a '93 Rx-7, love it to death, but ask whether I would trade it in for an s2000? Only for one reason: Age. I like the s2000 alot...something about noramlly aspirated mini-motor pumping out 240 HP...especially the quality and reliability. But if Mazda still sold the rx-7 today, I would still pick that. If someone offred to trade my rx-7 for their s2000, thats a different story
