I traided my RX-7 for a S2000 and very happy with it. I have a auto touring and replaced one motor. If i had a stick R1 or R2 i would have held on to it. Stock Handleing is too close to call imo.

Just thought I'd put my slight contribution of piece of mind into this conversation. The RX7 and S2000 are comparable in some ways, but not in every way. You would think that they are to be classified as completely different types of cars, as the RX7 is extremely light and runs twins stock while the S2K is a convertible doing N/A. So you just gotta ask yourself which suits your needs the best, comparable to how every individual leads a separate but similar life. =) Life is what you make it, and so are the cars you drive. I at the moment am driving an Acura TL-S. It's a four door luxury sedan, and I seriously thought I was through with the whole performance thing. But after taking a C32AMG for a spin, your perspective changes completely. So I as well am considering a new car for the upcoming year. Perhaps a purchase won't be made for another 12-18 months or so, but the cars in mind are the S2000, Supra TT, and RX7. I've recently just crossed the RX7 out of my list simply because I wouldn't be able to maintain the car like I should. Totally leaning towards the S2K though, and hopefully go with the speedcraft turbo. One of my friends runs about 800whp on his 94 Supra TT, so it's hard to compete. Just want to jump into something different, and not have to compete with a guy who put 25k into his engine setup alone . BTW, mad props to Chris with the SPA; his setup is just incredible. Comment to the guy talking ish on high school students, I myself am an 18 year old senior. I have my own webdesign company @ www.samlee888.com and do pretty well. Also, my car isn't "powered by parents," and my next car (hopefully the s2000) won't be either. Anyways, good luck deciding between cars, both are great performing machines.

I have had two RX-7's in the past; one '88 Turbo II and one '94 Turbo R1 (or R2 I forgot). I own a S2000 now (and a Porsche). And as far as I remember, '98 RX-7 was indeed a lot faster when the turbo kicked in. Of course, S2000 gets boost after VTEC kicks in, but it's not the same as what you get from turbo.

'94 RX-7 Turbo was indeed a great car, and I still like the design as well, and it was well designed to the every small detail to be a serious sport car from the ground up. For that matter, I would not quite put it in the same category as Supra and 3000GT VR4. Although I have to admit that all the Japanese car companies including Mazda were too caught up the hourse power race and getting the fastest 0-400m time and fastest lap time in the early to mid 90's.

S2000 was also designed be a pure sports car from ground up, but it wasn't to be a 0-400m/1/4 mi king, to get to 0-100km/h the fastest, or to run the race track the fastest. The forcus was for the driver to enjoy driving.

Therefore, in my opinion, putting a supercharger or turbo kit on the S2000's VTEC engine, which was designed to provide the fun of having normal aspiration engine, is totally ridiculous. You are totally destroying the concept of how the engineers and designers wanted the car to be.

I liked my RX-7 because it was a fast car to feel the sheer speed, and I enjoy driving my S2000 because it's fun to drive it. They are both sports cars, but not the same kind. Just please don't put all of them into the same category and only discuss on how fast they can do drag races. Numbers are not everything.

I have a S2000 and a RX-7 R2. The S2000 is a great car. Fun to drive and handles very good. The convertible top is GREAT, especially on a warm night. BUT, the RX-7 is just better IMO. I am the original owner of my car and I have not had one problem with it. Well if you count the tuner that screwed up my engine then yeah but other than that I have no worries. I have over 109K on my R2, but she still purrs like a cat and she still smokes the competition (well most of it anyway ) right now she is in the shop going single, I CAN'T wait. If you can keep the RX-7 and get the S2K, do so. Personally I would not trade MY R2 for an S2000. But I would think about it b/c the S2000 is a GREAT car.
