04 vs 03 Dyno test on vtec.net
I haven't kept up with this thread. I missed a day or two and it seems to be twice as big as when I left it. I read some of the new posts and have some thoughts to offer.
First, I beleive most european countries tax cars on displacement. Japan may do the same, I am not sure. In the end, more cubes = more tax dollars overseas. Maybe some of the board members from foreign countries could chime in with specifics. It doesn't surprise me at all that Honda would not make the 2.2 litre engine available in other markets.
Second, has anybody weighed the new car? I'm just wondering if it is heavier.
Third, with gear differences and tire and wheel differences it is going to be difficult to get a real back to back comparisson of the two motors. UL is trying to do all he can to take variables out of the equation. But it will be very hard to compare the real world differences between the two engines in two cars that have these differences.
Fourth, I also am hopeful that the new car is faster and better than the old. We all should be. Nothing is worse than new cars that underperform the cars they replace. I went through that in the 70s and 80s. Believe me, you don't want that.

BUT, as someone who is highly respected and who's opinions people hold as automatically true, there is a certain responsibility that he has, one of which is to not say "case closed."
. It was Back-cracker that made that post...ron
As someone who tries (within my own little world I suppose) to get as close to accurate as I can with testing my car following my monthly tinkering sessions (intake, exhaust, wheels, etc); I have always appreciated UL's methodical approach to explaining S2000-related issues. I have disagreed with him on a few but usually find myself on his side.
However, I feel those who march in some Pied Piper lockstep to UL's knowledge are missing the point of Luis' comments (and by the way, Luis and I have disagreed in the past but in this case, not so).
For someone to write "case closed" after reading the results from one tested vehicle is something I don't think UL would support. I think we need to get a few more '04's "under the knife" before we can begin drawing definitive conclusions.
That's all Luis appears to be saying and I back him up on it.
Thinking so in no way implies the effort or knowledge of UL isn't appreciated or respected...I that that point is abundantly clear but even the most respected tuners normally don't post "god givens" based on one car.
