Why is it necessary to clutch out and into neutral (right before you shift) to blip the throttle? Wouldn't it be the same if you blip the throttle in mid shift without going into neutral?

Just my two cents, but heal toe is more of a racing technique that is not really necessary for the street. Also to properly use that technique you need all three pedals to be flush. The Honda has off set pedals which makes it difficult to do without a bump out on the gas pedal. I match speed with the gears on downshifts and I have never had to blip the throttle or double clutch. Do what works for you.

I wear a size 13 and I can heel-toe without a problem. I use the ball of my foot on the brake and blip the throttle with my heel. The only time I can't do it is if I'm wearing dress shoes or work boots, in which case I don't even bother to try.

If you dont clutch out as your passing neutral to blip then only the engine is rev matched.. the spinning gear isnt. On these cars most people let the syncros do that for them but that puts more stress on the syncros.

When I do this I heel-toe like eisenfaust does it.. double clutching heel-toe downshifting. But only when am going the 90 degree slow corners in the city or slowing down because traffic is coming up or the guy in front just decides he/she wants to slow down.

Off ramps when I can brake late and such the clutch pedal stays on the floor as I do through each gear like how racers on BMI do it around the track.

I was taught by an wise member through the Acura TL forums as many other members on there have been. Some threads in which he posted in; User name is SouthernBoy.

and about the wear on the clutch thing. I would assume it does wear it a bit but nothing much since there is really no load on it as you blip.

I cannot heel/toe the proper way. When I need to blip the throttle, I pivot on the heel of my right foot over the the gas, I do not actually twist my ankle to tap it.

Works fine.

maybe for smaller feet but not for me
I bent my gas pedal toward the brake pedal. It took a while to get used to. Heel toeing seems to work best under heavy braking. If your braking lightly, when ya go to blip the throttle, sometimes ya wind up pressing on the brake pedal unintentionally causing a sudden, abrupt unsmoothness.

Heel toeing is not really practical unless your driving in a spirited fashon. I dun't go braking, blipping and down shifting at every stop sign. I suppose ya could, just so you can master the technique for a closed race track. On the streets, I simply let off the gas, slow down, (slow enough to where I'm not braking and blipping simultaniously) slight blip, and downshift. If I know that there are no cars behind me as I am approaching a red light, I'll just throw it into nuetral, and coast to the stop sign. Absolutely NO wear on the clutch or drive train.

When driving spirited, out away from the population, is when I sometimes brake/blip/downshift simultaniously. (heel/toe) Keep in mind, I dun't always heel/toe every where I go depending on the road and the environment around me.

Example: Your driving on Hwy 1 approaching a curve with a sign that says 15 mph. About 10 feet to the right is a 200 foot drop off Ya dun't wanna be approaching this corner at 40-50 mph, brake late, hard, blip the throttle through the gears, through it into the corner like Parnelli Jones, cause you will die

j/k I'm just trying to explain that you dun't have to heel/toe everytime you slow down, or come to a stop

Heel/toeing works best on a closed course.
