2002 model vs. 2000
I own one of the original S2000s. Unfortunately I rarely get to drive it and now am selling it.
I test drove a 2002 Blue one today and was surprised at how different it felt to drive compared to my 2000 model! The dealer let me play a CD in it and the new stereo definitely is an improvement! The model that I drove did not have the Honda subwoofer in it (where do they put it - in the trunk?)
The dealer showed me a feature that I thought was cool. In first gear with my foot OFF the gas pedal the car just kept moving. It did NOT stall! Eventually it was just moving along at 2 - 3 mph! This might be useful in stop and go city traffic.
The glass rear window seemed much smaller than the plastic one on my car but the view from the rear view mirror did not seem that different.
There was much more leather in the interior of the 2002 model and the blue interior was kind of slick. Unfortunately it was dark when I went to see the car so I could not really tell what the blue color looked like. The 2002 silver models that I saw are NOT the same silver that my 2000 model is. My car is more grey. I like my cars "silver" color better than the new one and my dealer agreed with me.
The shifter is visually different from the one in my car and it is VERY different in the "feel". You can shift gears with one finger and it seemed very smooth and easy! As soon as I used it I shouted, "My God!" It REALLY is different and an improvement!
Bravo to Honda! They have taken a great car and IMHO improved it greatly in just two years!
