Default 2004 VTEC Engagement

when will it engage? Still at 6000K or lower now since the redline is lower?

I would assume that it will be a bit lower. If you shift at 8900rpm, you are still slightly above the 6200rpm vtec engagement point when you pop off a fast shift to the next highest gear. If they lower the redline, you will be shifting up to a lower relative rpm and will be under vtec, assuming that all ratios and gearing stay the same. Since we know that the gear ratios are changing this year, it is very hard to speculate where they will lower it to.

G,

I read in R&T that the gear ratios are changing...

So, I'd say we can't really make a valid guess here.

(not that I necessarily trust what I read )

I expect less of a midrange dip. The power delivery should be very linear, not as big of a VTEC kick.

My H22A1 redlines at 7400 rpm. The VTEC engagement comes at 4400-4800 rpm. It's a 2.2 L, 190 hp, 155 ft lb engine when new and stock.

You know, I might have mis-spoken. I think it is right at 4,800 to 5,200 depending on conditions. I'll go drive this morning and see. You can feel the "jump to hyperspace" feeling in it, just like the S2000.

I don't think 4,400 is at all right. Nor 5,400.
