Anyone else dislike the start button?
My wife's 2010 highlander has a start button but the brake pedal needs to be pressed for the engine to start (not good for racing) plus the kids get car sick when I spin out. Same with the Prius, well the Prius just kind of hums. Pressing the start button on my S gives me goose bumps so for me it is essential. This is weird though, my PC at work requires me to use the start button to turn it off. WTF!

The start button is really only odd since in the US they're on opposite sides of the key. So while the RHD models operate the engine start with one hand, it takes 2 for the US LHD version.
Still awesome though.

I am amazed that in every thread five different people give the same exact answer. In this case the same wrong answer.

LHD = key and shifter on the same side opposite the start button
RHD = key and start button on the same side opposite the shifter
I actually prefer the LHD configuration, I can turn the key and hit the button at the same time.

Lol, I find it funny that he deleted his post following.
I know I'm going to get slandered on this but I honestly think the start button is rice. Yeah I said it, RICE!
What do you call adding a huge ass spoiler on a car that never sees a day on the track or drag strip? RICE!
What do you call adding crazy stupid body kits just cause some people thinks it looks cool? RICE!
What do you call adding those lame fake fender brake cooler vent things, or shark fin antenna, or all that crap you see at Autozone? RICE!
What do you call adding a start button that is pointless because you have to turn the key anyway? RICE!
It's just adding a pointless extra step to turn on your car just because it's "cool".
What's next, having to turn the key, push the start button and then flip a start switch?!
It was sooooo embarassing when I let my brother (who has a Z8 with a REAL start button) drive my S and was all like "Why do I have to press the start button if I already have to stick the key in and turn it anyway?"
Now if it was a biometric scanner that are in most high end laptops these days then that would be functional and cool.
The only part I like about having a start button is because when I say I have one I get the "wow!" factor, even though the damn thing is useless.
/ricist rant

Huge ass spoiler on a non-track car = RICE because it serves no, or a merely cosmetic purpose
Stupid body kits = RICE because it serves no, or a merely cosmetic purpose
Fake fender brake coolers = RICE because it serves no, or a merely cosmetic purpose
Start button does not equal rice because it in fact DOES have a purpose, It was intended as a feature for the track since they intended the car to be used on the track by many of it's owners, Having that start button allows the car to be started with one hand while the other puts the car in gear following a spin.
There are multiple reasons to have a start button, the common one that people think of today is like BMW, to give a way to start the car when using a proximity key, and that is a "real" use, but so is the track minder use that the S2000's is designed for, it is no less real than the BMW button. In fact since all it does is spin the starter motor, where as the BMW button runs a computer program that does a whole bunch of things, one could argue that the S2000 button is more "real". I would argue though that the mere fact that it does something and is not just decoration, makes it "real".
I LOVE pushing the stater button! It adds so much to the ambiance of starting the S2000. I actually like the way you, i mean we, have to insert and twist the key before pushing it. I dislike the newer keyless systems where you just sit in and push... boring!
Starter buttons can be a nuisance.
In 68 I drove a GT B Ferrari in a 12 hour production sports car race at Surfers Paradice.
Near the end of the race, in the dark, the car in front of me put a rod out through it's sump, just after entering a long 125 MPH corner.
It dropped 3 gallons of oil, on line, right around the corner.
Some bloke in the pits reckoned he counted my headlights going round 12 times. I don't believe him, but it did go round a few.
Luckily, with everything locked up, it stayed on the hard stuff until sliding just off into the infield as it stopped. It had stalled.
Fortunately it was a Le Mans start, so I had started the thing once. Unfortunately I could not remember where the starter button was, & could not find it in the dark. The key I could find by feel, but not that damn button.
I was getting worried as in the minute I spent looking for the thing, half a dozen cars had spun or slid past me, some still at quite high speed. Fortunately the marshals woke up about then, & showed oil flags, which helped.
After much frustration, looking for that button, I finally remembered this was not some race special, but a luxury road going Ferrari. I opened the door.
Success, the interior light came on, I found the button, & I was out of there.
Still for 40 years I did not like starter buttons, but it is part of the S2ks nature, & I'm getting to like it.

ROFL, This reminds me when you have a newb on CS 1.6 and they think they are the best player until you own them 20 to 0. Always i told the little kids, "exit, go to control panel, uninstall the game, and throw it away.
Any ways, the start button isn't a problem. i actually enjoy it because i modded the clutch, so all i have to do is just start the car when i'm out of the car. My keys are usually in the ignition, no one can drive my car, they will literally stall the car when trying to accelerate.
Most cars that don't have proximity keys today but had start buttons that you'd call true "push button start" cars also had a ton of switches to flip to turn things on. No car was ever just ready to go at the push of a button.
The logic with the S2000 push button is that if you are in the car and do anything to stall, you can shift to first with your right hand while restarting the engine with your left hand, so you can get moving again faster - typically for race conditions.
