Default Auto Lock

I don't know if this is on all model years but I just noticed this the other day.

When I unlock my car with the factory remote and don't open the door within 1-2 minutes, both doors lock automatically.

Sounds stupid but hey, it was cool when it first happened!

This is not a honda only thing. Many other cars have the "feature". It's supposed to prevent accidental clicks of the open button on the remote if you were walking away or something.

It's not fun when you unlock, go pickup something from inside the house in the rain to carry it to your car (think big enough that you dont have a free hand so your keys are now in your pocket) just to find out that your car locked itself before you got there.

That's why some people tape their copied-keys (i.e. those cheap $2 keys from a local hardware store without the immobilizer chip) somewhere inside the fender.

If they get locked out, they just get the key under the fender/bumper/whatever and open the door. The natural question would be, "What if a thief finds it?" That's why they tape a copied key without the immobilizer chip. Having the key to unlock the door isn't a big deal, since a slim jim and/or a screw driver could easily pop the door open anyway.

For me, I have an aftermarket alarm (with 2-way remote, so I will know if I accidently pressed unlock button) ... which naturally disables that auto-lock feature from Honda.
