Blown Engine-Need Advice
Looks like the new engine will be covered for 12K/1 Year (parts/labor). The extended warranty (75K) will remain in effect but wont be extended a year on the engine as a result of the new engine warranty. So I guess I now have a double warranty on the engine for a year. A little confusing but I plan on finding out exactly how it works before I pony up anything. I should hear from Honda tommorrow as to Yay or Nay on taking care of this failure. I'm not very optimistic after seeing my blown engine and have made arrangements to pay for the new engine.

However, I talked to Hardtoguy and he said that if I misshifted prior to this then that could have started a time bomb ticking and it was only a matter of time before engine failure.

Maybe so but Hardtopguy is a reputable source and works for a good Honda dealership. Anyway, I just heard from Honda and much to my surprise (ha-ha) they said NO. No help whatsoever. I will be meeting with my dealer tommorrow and I have requested a complete break down of parts/labor/warranty and time frame. Keep you posted. For those of you going to Fall Colors, enjoy, the weather looks great. Sorry I couldnt be there.

Ray, the way to look at this is cut and dry. If you are confident that you did not do anything to damage the engine, then Honda has a legal obligation to repair it that they are not meeting. In Georgia you can sue for up to $15k in small claims court, so that would be the direction that I would go. Of course the limit may be different where you live. I wouldn't mess with arbitration because the arbitrators that Honda uses know who really pays them in the end. Of course if you think that you may have damaged the engine, then they have met their obligation (although they don't seem to be doing anything to help you out some).
As for that particular dealership, consider this. They will get paid more if you pay them versus Honda paying them. If Honda pays them, they don't get to mark up the price of the parts and they get paid at a reduced warranty labor rate instead of their posted labor rate. The bottom line of this is that they really have an incentive not to go to bat for you regarding the warranty. Honda doesn't like warranty claims and they can make more money off of you anyway. So, do you really know that they went to bat for you. If not, I'd take it to someone else so that they don't profit from their possible lack of help.
Keep us updated. Good luck.
