okay here is the deal i am look to buy my first car the choices ive narrowed it down to are s2000, 8th gen si, or a mkv gti. of course the s2k would be the fastest/most enjoyable car to have. but i do live in new england so that means a good amount of snow in a winter and pretty bad streets and also this would be my first car and daily driver. but if it makes a differance in the winter i would switch my plates over to my dads truck.

now here is the finical part i am 16 yeaa iam still a kid but i have saved up 7000$ from my past job and am out of work right now but there is a 2006 s2000 with 20k on it and the dealership is asking 15,000 (i talked them down from 17) for it and i went to test drive it and the car is mint no dings no scratches its perfect and i kno its a great deal and i really dont want to pass on it since because i dont know if i would find something like that again when the gti, and si i can always find in good conditions/low miles. the dealership suggested that i put 5,000 down and put 2,000 in the bank for payments and they would give me a month and a half untill i had to start making payments which would give me about 7 months untill i had to find another job to make payments. my parents are not helping on the car but i am very greatful that they are paying for my insurance so i dont have to worry about that.

SO for all of you who actually read all of that just give me your advice on which car you think would be best for me. and if you think that financing it even before i get a job would be a good idea in my situition and thanks for reading.
buy a used civic Si. plenty sporty and nice for a 16 yr old.

Do not buy an s2000. Not the one you're looking at, not any s2000.

k? k.

Keep in mind that running costs for this car will be far higher than normal cars, too. It's not as bad as a Ferrari and they are very reliable, but you need to figure $800 for a set of tires that may only last 10,000 miles (and 10,000 miles is nothing). You need to figure that you'll spend double on oil changes because you'll want synthetic, plus every other oil change you'll triple that cost because you'll be changing differential and transmission fluids, too. You need to figure that insurance will be double or triple the cost of a normal car. My S2000 insurance costs nearly triple what my Accord V6 does, and I'm 28 with a perfect driving record and qualify for every discount under the sun. You need to figure that the convertible top is a wear item, especially if you'll daily drive in the winter, and it costs roughly $2000 to replace. If your seats are stolen from your high school or college parking lot, your insurance could total your car. Make a mistake while shifting and you have a blown engine and possibly a blown differential, too. The list goes on...

The point is that if you have to stretch AT ALL to purchase this car, you can't afford it, because everything that comes after the initial purchase is going to cost way more than you can afford.

Get the SI. That was my first car, a 2007 SI and I had a lot of fun with it. Made 210whp with bolt ons and a reflash. Easy car to mod, not that expensive (not as bad as the S2K). SI will also get better gas mileage from my experience. More seats for the gf and her free-loading friends (I know you probably do a lot of partyin' at your age or a lot of running around). After 2 years without getting into trouble/accidents, turbo or supercharge the SI, be even more fun. Then when you're 20 and have experience get the S2K.

SI insurance will be cheaper along with gas, everything about that car is cheaper than the S2K. I beat the SHIT out of my SI and that thing ran great till the day I got rid of it. I would powershift that thing constantly and NEVER had a problem with it what-so-ever. Was a great first car.

I think this thread should make the general consensus of the forum pretty clear, but then again with a decision as clear cut as this I would have expected the same answer from a class room full of 4th graders.

Doesnt really matter much what we say, I guarantee he will go with what he wants rather than what a bunch of random people that own the car already say

This is all because the economy is doing so bad and used car price went down .. a 16 year old can afford a 3~4 year old rwd convertible.

I blame the economy..

It's the coolest car you can buy with such money.. after all..
But listen to what older people say.

If you want to prove that you are mature, don't prove it by buying an S and trying not to wreck the car.
Be wise enough to stay away from it, and STUDY HARD...
Within 10 years.. you will see why you should have studied hard....

Good luck kid.

Reasons This Thread is BS
By dammitjim

1. Can't get financing without a j-o-b
2. No 2006 with 20k that is worth buying is $15k at a dealer
Good to hear.

I got a very minty 2006 S2K at the dealer a few months ago, with 22K mi. Definitely hit me harder than 15 grand. Either that $15,000 car is not what it seems, that kid is a whiz, or I'm a sucker and got fleeced.
