Who gives a darn about what rpm you can successfully engage your clutch at... Are the people on this forum that childish that you have to get into a pissing match over something that stupid?
Call me childish or whatever you want.

The OP raised a question about whether this is normal, and I'm saying that it is not. I'm merely pointing out the fact that there is really no need to rev excessively to move this car.

Giving a little bit of gas to get the car moving is normal. But I just don't want the OP to get the impression that one needs to rev to 2 to 3k rpm just because this car doesn't have 300lbs of torque.

I admit my tone wasn't the best, and I still am not in the best tone; I feel that some of the threads were providing misleading information to the OP on something so simple.

Not saying I'm an "awesome" driver here. However, if one is really "riding the clutch" at say 2500rpm in traffic to inch the car? Then I personally really suggest he/she relearn that process, as it will be great benefit to the driver him/herself. Yes, who cares if one could get the car off at 1300 or 1500 ... but going all the up to 3 grand to do it? I'm not so sure about that one.

Think about having a driver who clutches in while cruising, and constantly engages/disengages the clutch whenever he needs to gas while driving @ 40mph? Sure he's not harming anyone, and there is no big fuss. Then he goes around and asks people whether that is right, and people go tell him that's the right way to do it just because he drives a GTI. Then THAT's messed up -- as in those who told him that's the right thing to do. And yes, I do know someone who constantly engages/disengages the clutch while cruising.

k i started paying attention after this thread started, and i can say that normally i start at 1500, 2k at the MAX.

so, if you're over that, you're hurting your clutch and it really isn't necessary. however, i will say it sounds kinda cool to rev the engine a lil from a dead stop so sometimes i'm guilty of pushing it higher just for fun...

and for a couple of you above... don't turn this into a flamewar, it was a simple enough question...

I'm not trying to start a flame war Sorry if I misinterpreted your tone.

What rpm you start at pretty much just depends on your driving style and the situation. Such as elevation of the road, traffic conditions, etc. If the road is flat I'll start from around 2k and if theres a hill I may push it to 3.5k just so I don't accidently stall out.

I think starting below 2k is more easy on the clutch.
I have no problem starting below 2k on normal drives.

No issues starting at 1500-2k, but if you have to do that until you get use to the engine and the clutch then that's fine. I'd suggest blipping the throttle and letting the clutch just touch slightly for a split second, then push the clutch back in all the way. This will get you rolling without having to hold the engine at 2-3k with your clutch constantly wearing.
