I don't know what all of the hating is about. The CR is going to be the "best performing S2000 ever" in every magazine. It's not just cosmetic fluff, the car is 3 seconds faster around the track, that's a significant improvement.
Especially when you consider that most mods people do to their cars amount to slower lap times on the track... a looks-so-great 2" drop, subwoofer in the trunk, heavy 18" wheels, bargain priced Taiwan tires designed for sedans, crappy intake/exhaust, cheap ass fiberglass hoods and bumpers.
A stock CR is going to beat 99% of the tuner trash you see on this site. And if you can pick one up for $35,000 you'd still be under what most people have spent modding their cars.

And the idea that the car is the way this is when rolled off of the dealer lot appeals to me -- especially when I have little to no understanding of serious suspension tuning. I would probably end up messing up the suspension and handling characteristic through mods. Also, the whole thing is from Honda, I need not worry about reliability or finding someone to fix things for me if anything does go wrong.

Are you saying that you know a source where S2000 CR's are MSRPing at $36,300???

MY08 - $34,300
CR - $36,300
$2000 for the aero kit, bracing, hardtop and suspension... By Porsche standards, that's a steal!
And Ferrari charges you to put *their* badges on your car!!!
Can't wait to see a new CR for real! It looks like it's materialized into something a lot less cheezy than what we initially saw at the NY Auto Show.
Go Honda!!!!!
