The prices for your the shocks and springs are a bit low. Looks like those prices are for one side only.

Also, doesn't the front right shock alone cost $417.30 from item #3? I don't see any discount prices on www.hondaparts.com ...

Simply purchasing Honda parts without discounts would cost you a fortune ... The shocks and springs would cost around 2K I would imagine (too lazy to add up the numbers). But then, at least these are tested and proven with some sort of numbers and are OEM quality.

The shocks and springs are different on the CR than 2008 base models. And 2008 base models' shocks and springs are both different from previou years'.

Doing a CR conversion would not be cheap in any fashion. Simply getting the wing + front lip themselves would cost over 1K already. And on top of that, you probably have to paint them if you have an NFR, silver, or laguna/suzuka (another few hundo). You also have sway bars (another 300), and steering column (who knows how much that is ... another 1K? again too lazy to dig through the parts site). The wheels are probably not worth the swap if they aren't really lighter, or you might even be able to pick a set up later when people sell them on the Sale forum here. Then you gotta add a hardtop to really make the wing and lip worthwhile, ... another 2K there for a used one. The bill could easily rack up to 4 to 5K including labour, if not more ...

Oh yes, and you need the RE070 tires too! Another 1K Or you could probably use RE01Rs. But you do need the tires to improve the handling like the CR did
While it seems like a fortune, consider the CR costs in excess of $9000 more!

Now, before you me, note that I just picked up a new S2K for just about $28000. CRs are decidedly going at sticker, at $37,300. The $37,300 is with A/C and the radio since it's the closest one can get to an apples-to-apples comparison with the base car on equipment. That gives you the best picture for the basis of comparison.

$37,300 less $28,000 gives you $9300.

By my math, $9300 sure has a lot of buying power. Imagine what one could get with that amount!

Not counting tuning, but for just parts, that's F/I, coilovers, wheels/tires. $9300 would definitely buy you better performance than the CR!

$28,000 for a 08 or a 07?

08's are starting at $34,300 on the honda website not sure on sticker at dealerships.

07MY. But one must ponder why pay $34,300 for an 08MY when you can get an 07 for ~$6000 less?

Hahaha not gonna flame you for that! Nah, I see your point. The CR would most likely sell for close to (if not more than) the MSRP, where as a base model would sell at a deep discount (just like the one you picked up, which is a very good deal). Base models from previous years generally run between 28 to 29.5K, compared to their 34-odd K MSRP price.

Anyway, I was only saying that the conversion isn't so cheap (ie. one can't bang out the whole thing with merely 2K). It would run for a good few grand to do the conversion properly -- even accounting for discounts that Manchester Honda will eventually have. Without the discounts, the parts will probably amount to a monstrous 7K, where as with discount, one might be able to get that down to, say, 5K before the hardtop. Then labour and paint job would cost another few hundo to 1K.

Of course, this isn't a bad deal if one owns an 05 like I do, since these little AP2s are only worth somewhere between 20 to 24K. To trade in for a CR would cost way more than the conversion itself.

In any case, I'm only talking about the cost of CR conversion here. I'm sure some will argue that they'll go for aftermarket venders for the parts, but then that's another story hehe
Aye. And I agree with you on the conversion bits. I myself am already eyeing potential bits from the CR to bolt on:
1. Steering rack brace
2. Springs/shocks
3. Anti-roll bars (to maintain balance with springs/shocks)

Absolutely nothing else interests me.

$1800 for just springs and shocks is certainly quite a lot to make that type of swap though, I agree. I'm just not convinced I can find someone locally to corner-weight true coilovers, nor am I really looking forward to a super-stiff ride that's typical of coilovers.

You had mentioned the hardtop as well--I certainly dig it! But I'm not sure about you or other folks either--I'd much rather have one in the color that matches the rest of my car!

But then again, I believe Boofster (I think??) was the one who told us to wait to the end of October for a pleasant surprise announcement... Hmmm...

This is true but even if you get the CR, you will want to mod it.

Wow, an actual post about the CR...rather than a post about how you could buy parts and build your own half a#s version...whatever...

I think the name of this should be changed to the "definitive" thread that was almost about the CR for a little while and then got completely side tracked....

Anyway, finally saw a black one in the flesh today and got to do a test drive. Test drive was too short but a few observations;

The exhaust note does not really sound any different on startup from outside the car but sounds better once you rev it a little. A slightly lower exhaust note and more growl above 3000RPM, almost like an inline 6.

Shifter is slightly stiffer than my AP1 but feels much better overall with none of the clankyness of my early car. Tire and wheel package looks great in the flesh. Wing is big and making me think I want the car in black so that it is a little less rice rice baby... Front lip looks very aggressive and gives the car a mean stance.

I really like the interior treatment, very classy in an almost Porsche like way...Alcantera seat trim and on door panels is a very nice touch...Carbon Fiber does not look fake to me...

I really like the look of the car in black but want to see the blue one in the flesh before I make my final decision on which one to get. If anybody knows where I can see a blue one either around LA or in MN please PM me...

This particular dealer in LA had a "market adjustment" of 4K over sticker that was being asked...highly doubtful they'll get it as I expect you'll be able to buy these all day long at sticker and eventually for less. Sales guy was clueless about the car, he tried to lower the hard top like it was a folding job...

Maybe once I buy one we can have a thread that is actually about the CR...

........if tomorrow Honda announced that there would be an S2000 CR race series open to CR's only (verifiable by VIN) and the winner of each race would pocket say 5k.,2nd place 2500 and 3rd 1000

Let's say this was a 10 race series that would follow hmmmm maybe the ALMS;I wonder how much bitching would be going on in this forum right now ?

No one here ever seems to look past their nose to a bigger picture.

I wonder if all the I've seen thrown at this car would have been directed in a positive manner and taken to Torrance or Tokyo as a one make race series here in North America ; just what the answer from Honda might have been ?

Steve...

That's a really good point... Mazda has the Cup series... and has had amazing success... I wish the CR would help to promote something similar from Honda...
