i hope they're not talking about the tonneau cover when they say :

Substantial structural bracing has been added to the storage area previously occupied by the soft top, resulting in additional rigidity.

The aluminum hard top replaces the soft top of the conventional s2000, resulting in an overall weight savings of approx. 90 lbs when removed.
Does the 90lbs include the a/c and stereo weight? So A/C delete total around 140lbs lighter?

The total weight loss, with the hardtop removed on a base CR (read: no ac/stereo) is 90 lbs. So, once you add the hardtop, ac and radio you are back to very little, if any loss. The body kit and brace take the rest of the weight the spare saved. (spare is remvoed in the cr, replaced by a can of fix-a-flat and a patch kit)

There is 150 lbs deleted from the standard S2k with the ac/radio, top, etc. 60 lbs of structural bracing, aero kit, wing, etc get added back in. Thus there is about 90 lbs weight saved net without the hardtop installed. So, they basically eliminated a 12 yr old kid's worth of weight.

Here's the trick...

Honda keeps talking about "catering to the weekend racer" how will this play out when people take their CR's to the track and come back for warranty work.

Even worse, will Honda blacklist people who track the CR because it states in the warranty clause taking the car to the track will void warranty?

I'm just curious

Warranties are not cancelled by racing. Warranties don't cover abusive damage caused on a track or on the street. If you wear the brakes out early by driving it aggressively on the track, you just need to be a man and pay for it. True race cars don't race multiple days on the same brakes, so don't expect it of the CR, etc.

I think that Honda is encouraging responsible racing activity on a track vs. street racing, which is just plain dangerous.

The warranty doesn't really have anything to do with it because failures caused by racing shouldn't be covered under the warranty anyway. Severely worn brakes, clutches worn out, blown engines...how are any of those design defects? Thus, don't worry about it. If you race, and you make a mistake and break something, you get to pay on the street or the track.

Amer, I like your badge.

I have decided I like the car. I'm expecting a little refinement on the details during production, but I love the fact that they focused on suspension and lightweight components... I dunno, maybe the blue will grow on me, but I think most of the details are cool. I might even grow to like the aero bits, as (according to the TOV interview) these are truly functional pieces.

Overall, I'm not interested in one, though, because if there's one defining thing in the S2000 that I can't live without it's the soft top. But, rock on S2000 CR!

The PR person form Honda also told me that blue wasn't going to be the only color available; she said 3 others also..i forget them now..maybe a black, red and silver too and from what she said all were to have the yellow stitched interior. Wasn't in the press kit i received..but who knows
