Dave ROR,
From what I've understood, basically AHM basically took a huge gamble bringing the Acura Integra Type R to the U.S. It's no secret that the ITR was geared toward the same type of auto enthusiast as this S2000 CR. These are auto enthusiasts who want a street car that could perform on a road course/circuit as in Japan.
If you remember, the ITR was discontinued after the MY '98 because the sales of the ITR were not up to par and AHM expectation. Then, after no MY '99 in the U.S. only, the ITR was reintroduced as a MY '00 and '01 model. Basically AHM wanted to cash in on the growing "import tuner scene" during that time. Although many ITRs were sold , AHM never really reached it's goal of selling the ITR to it's target audience, i.e. those who would drive them on a track. Therefore, there would be no Honda/Acura models in Type R form seen on North American shores ever again.
Sadly, IMO, this S2000 CR will go that same route. American auto enthusiasts really have very little input into the designs of Hondas on American soil. When it comes to Honda performance models we always get some "watered down" model which is not totally AHM's fault, but U.S. emission laws were at fault as well.

Hell, I believe it was one of Ferdinand Porsche's sons who was asked, when looking at/flying over a Porsche meet, asked if he was proud. His reply was that he was sad, the cars are meant to be driven. The ITR and others like it are the same, they are meant to be driven and tracked, but not everyone will do that with them.
Either way, the ITR is, IMO, one of Honda's greatest successes in the US. Maybe not in sales by itself, but it brought a LOT of young buyers to honda to buy other cars, and many of them continued to buy hondas and still do.
This CR will go down a worse path unless we are missing something.

the car is definitely not finished... the rear spoiler wasn't even bolted ... when I leaned on it while talking to the designer from Honda Japan - I knocked off the uprights... so the tape seems a very temporary show floor bandage....
