Default Dilema - windshield tape...

Ok, I just had the windsheild replaced this morning and got a good look at the windsheild tape from where the windsheild used to be. It looks like I have one of the ones that was painted all around. There are some spots that were covered by the windsheild that didn't have paint on them, and I could see black and the edges of the paint.

Does this mean that mine is most likely painted all the way around?? Should I chance it?? Anyone else have a similar experience?

I went through this "dilemma" as well and so have many others on this board. Ultimately, it's up to you to decide which looks better: off or on.

People have used the argument that most other roadsters don't have the tape on, that the frame around the windshield is painted body color (i.e., Boxsters, SLKs, Z3s). But also know that those cars have a much more raked windshield than ours. Sure the Ferrari 360 Spider has the body-colored matching windshield frame, but again, it's much more raked than the S2000's.

If we're going to use Ferrari cars to justify taking this tape off, take a look at the Ferrari F50. Its windshield frame is up at more of an angle than the Spider, similar to the S2000. Guess what? It has black around the windshield frame.

But, hey, stupid argument. If you like it enough, do it. I decided not to and I'm glad I didn't. But it sounds like your paint isn't perfect underneath. Another reason NOT to go for it.

In actuality Honda planned from day one too have a hard top (hence the built in wiring). The black tape looks cool for for the HT it was envisioned to be removed "to provide integration". Note that the black cars have no tape so the tape serves no functional purpose. All cars go thru the same paint process. Problem is the tape sticks REAL well and can lead to damage when removed. So Honda has never advised you to remove the tape.....even if you end up getting the hardtop!

Right Honda?.............we know your here.

with my luck with honda, I'm going to focus on the transmission before I worry about getting a free paint repair...

They put the new windsheild in with a nice tight seal... I think I'm just gonna lt it be... Thanx for the info!
