Don't feel the S2000 is that fast
Himm You only lost me when you stated that 9000 rmp is not that high???
You're kidding right?
How many cars that are not F1 can go to 9000 rpm?
The other day I was talking with a guy at work and he we were talking about F1 cars and he was like damn you know those cars can rev to 12K rpm..
I was like yea... thats why I like my car cause it goes to 9000. He was like what? then you car blows up... lol
I took him for a ride in it and he was like Holy $hhhit.
Good Luck with the S. Im sure you will eventually love it. I cant say I have ever made a better purchase.

Diez,
There's a simple statistic. 11.6 pounds per horsepower. No magic, just some basic laws of physics. It's about the same as everything else in its class and they all accelerate about the same too. None of them approach 911, Z06, EVO, M3, etc., acceleration.
Having test driven some rather fast cars, I know how the S2000 can feel like a bit of a let-down in the power department.
But the S2000 is magic in some situations. You really, really, really need to take it to an autocross and do a DE event. The temptation to add more power will always be there, but you'll quickly realize just how damn fun it is anyway.

Your observations are reasonable and understandable and I can understand why you still bought the S.
While there is a bit of a compromise in power, it is more than compensated for by its low weight, ease and low cost of maintenance, reliability and price.
Coming from a '98 Supra twin turbo I can tell you, even though this car has less horsepower, it is more "usable" power and because it is sooo much nimbler handling, you can approach its higher limits in a much safer manner.
Yeah, a 400 BHP car is fun, but how often do you get to really stretch its legs? (On regular city streets, hopefully not too often).
With the S, you can do it almost everytime you're out driving because it is so light and nimble.
If you're into the quarter mile thing, you definitely bought the wrong car, other than that, this is a superb sports car.
As someone stated above, the car is not common, is fast enough, great looking and better handling.
For the price, nothing out there compares. A future classic.
Enjoy,
Daniel

Hey Diez,
For what it's worth, I'd have to agree with you. I have a '02 S2000, and don't feel the car is all that fast. I'd put it at about average quickness - or maybe just a tad higher - as far as performance cars go.
That having been said, it's a total blast to drive at any speed, so it's all good with me. 95% of the time, I'm not looking to race other cars, and a high "fun to drive" factor is more desirable than being fast anyway. There are a lot of faster cars out there, but the S2000 is still one of the most fun to drive IMO. Next time around, I will probably purchase a car with more torque and power. That's not out of dislike for the S2000, but just to experience something different. I can appreciate brute power as much as I can appreciate high revving motors.
I don't see your comments as taking anything away from the S2000. They're just personal observations that others may or may not agree with. I should also mention that my S2000 is my daily driver and 100% street driven. Those who track their cars may have different requirements and could certainly see other qualities that the car offers. Take care...

Obviously, you bought the car with wrong impression in mind.
S2000 shines on Road Tracks. Not on street encounters.
Remember, there are cars always faster than you.
I had no problem pulling away from Evo VIII or 350z on Mid Ohio race track.
I've learned my lesson not to race on public roads. Not worth it and you will be highly disappionted when cheaper car with more power passes you on straight line.
Take your car to the road track. That is where your S2000 blongs and where you should push your car. You'd be amaze at how wonderfully balanced the car is.

Put a comptech in there, then your problems are solved
. We have a couple of owners in socal that are pretty happy with their S's with FI. If your happy with your car and needs a bit more punch I think a SC is your answer. 240(stock)+110(SC) = 350HP for a light car is more than enough power you'll ever need.
But, like most of the owners here, I came from an accord so the S is a rocket ship for me
