Drive ending in me hanging upside down

Barry, I have nothing to say, looking at this like that is really an eye opener, looking at only those threads and trying to understand a persons mind set, I would draw the same conclusions. At the same time that just shows me how little you know of me. So until you do please don't make it such an open and shut case. Under these circumstances you don't really have a much of a choice. As much as you do know of me i would agree and understand what your trying to say by your posts, 17yoa punk + s2k = drive ending in me hanging upside down. But I ask you if you had travelled down such a road what would have been the outcome? I'm not trying to make this a battle its just hard to sit and watch my character be degraded among peers I admire and respect.

I actually said very little in my posts, other than opining that the SO-2 tires are only for summer.
I mostly asked questions and let people, including you, draw their own conclusions. Reread my posts and you'll see that that is true. Also, it is not as if I read over two hundred of your posts and selected the most damaging. As you know, you were an infrequent poster. Your total number of posts, as of now, including this thread, is 23. I dare say, my quotes included most of your posts prior to the accident.
So let me summarize what I know:
You are a 17 year old man who got an '00 S2000 at age 16. YOU emphasized that fact by choosing the screen name "white_s2000@16."
Prior to this accident, you made a few posts about street racing and a post in a supercharger thread. You originally started this thread in the "Street Encounters" forum.
You chose to drive a twisty two lane in 20*F temperatures and hit a patch of ice and flipped your car, probably totalling it. No one was injured. You had SO-2 tires on the car during the drive.
Although many posts in this thread make it sound like the road was fully at fault, and it didn't have to do with summer tires or your driving ability, apparently others negotiated the same road the same day without flipping their cars.
You have been polite and well-spoken on this thread.
If you want my opinion, private mail me and I'll be happy to share it. However, don't accuse me of making condemning statements. I've merely either asked questions or quoted you and if you feel that those quotes make you look bad, don't blame me.
By the way, my wife just returned from working a week in Vermont. One of the first things she told me is that one of her colleagues, a 50 year old college professor from New York, flipped her rental car on a patch of ice on her way to the airport yesterday. That college professor lives in New York City and does not drive frequently.
Matt,
Glad you're ok. Too many, young and old(er) S owners are having too many incidents/accidents w/ SO2's in winter. We are aware of this, and yet we still chance it. I don't know why, maybe it's the money factor or maybe it's just that we think, "well, it won't happen to me" attitude. Age has some factor but not always. I wouldn't hold that against you, in fact I'm somewhat jealous at the fact that I only drove my brother's mustang, my corolla, and my new 94 nissan p/u (moved from one car to the next, never owned all 3 at one time) instead of our nice S at that age.
I drove my p/u (same one since I was 18) during my first winter w/ the S. This is the second winter w/ my S and my p/u is gone, so I went and got me some all season tires just for the winter.
Get a beater, go buy some used winter tires (they're only $20-40 ea at a used tire lot) or get some all season tires even just for 1-2 months. Well worth it if you're going to drive all years round in your S. Much better than any minor incident, fender bender, or much worse like this...
Matt, what's the update on your situation? That accident looked pretty bad, how's your health? Any last minute trauma to your neck or back or your hips? What's the insurance situation? And what are you driving now?
Keep us posted.

I just wnwanto apapoligizeor putting words in barrys mouth, those were the conclusions of what I thought he was thinking from his posts.
LT - Since the accident I have had no health problems a little sore the past cuppcuppledays but nothing two advil couldn't handle. I did go to the hospital to get checked out, and they said i was fine. I did not recireceive kind of whiplash only my scraped knee! As for the insurance, they are going to look at the car by friday, I have allstate for anyone who is curious. As for now its back to my trusty 1989 240sx (I paid for this one!)
Thanks I will keep you posted when I know more,
Matt

white_s2000, I'm sorry for your loss.
That road looks almost familiar. Which road is it? I blast through these back roads in our area too, though not in recent months. I'll have to remember to watch out for that one.
I spun my S a few times last winter (no accidents luckily), learned my lesson, and purchased snow tires for this winter. I use Blizzacks and I highly recommend them. I can climb out of spots FWDs and some SUV's have trouble in. The Blizzack's dry grip is almost 1/2 of my S02's in ideal conditions, so there will be no 'blasting'. They are non the less definitely worth it for the winter months.

I think the major problem was the S02s as many have stated. I am driving my S in the chicago winter with my S02s, but then again i have shifter karted, raced GT cars, soon to drive a formula 2000 season and have quite a bit of experience with car control. However, even myself, i have realized that it is not me that may cause an accident, cause i drive carefully in the cold and icey weather, if someone creates a situation in front of you and there is heavy traffic and the car looses itself, even under control you will be SOL! Now i am 19 years old, so this whole teenager deal doesnt sit for everyone, i have had a lot of driving and racing experience and know how to control the vehicle, but with all that said.....I am glad you are ok bro. Shit like this happens to the best of us, just keep your head up and learn from the mistake....When it is cold out, dont drive too crazy, S02s dont like the wet, dont like the ice and dont like the cold. These tires dont get much grip when the ground is cold, even if it is dry. So next winter get some blizzaks bro. I hope everything works out for you and you get yourself another S!
Also, you keep bringing up the fact that he was in an S2000, and that his parents allowed him to drive an S2000. What does the fact that he was in an S2000 have to do with anything? From the description given, I'd be willing to bet that he would have had the same accident if he had been in a Toyota Corrolla, or a Ford Explorer... only he may not have come out of it so well. If you're jealous of him because he has a nice car at 17, that's cool... because I am too. Or if you're jealous of his parents because they can afford to buy their 17-year-old kid a $30K car, that's cool too. But that doesn't mean that they made a mistake by letting him drive it. Would you have made the same comment if he was in a $30K Volvo? Because, I'd be willing to bet that he would've had the same accident.
All I can say to anyone that does not agree. Wait till your my age and you have a 19 year old Daughter and 12 year old Son. When you do, I doubt very seriously that you would want to see them hurt. I sure as hell would KILL myself if I gave in and got my Daughter a 240 HP car (S2K, EVO, 350z etc. I cold care less which one) and she ended up wrapping it around a tree doing 130mph or something.
Temptation is the key here. Give them a NORMAL CAR/TRUCK and you lower the odds of them being tempted to race or drive crazy. And if they do, you lower the odds of them losing control at 100+ and killing themselves or others. Give them a 240HP+ automobile and you guarantee 100% that they will try it out and push it to see how far/fast they can go. Most of the time it will be ok. However, sometimes crap goes wrong.
Sure some kids are more responsible than others and that goes for adults also. But as a PARENT we have the duty to protect our children as best we can. That does not mean we should lock them in a room, but it does mean that we don't give them something that might increase the chances that they don't come home for dinner ever again.
Oh and jealousy does not play a roll here. Being a concerned parent does.
