eh, the whole AP1 > AP2 or vice versa thing gets really annoying. i'm just happy that there are two versions for S2000 fans to choose from.

Really? Mind telling us where? I recall no conclusive or documented evidence of this. I would think that it would take a failure of a motor owned by someone who has done this and very few have.
I remember Road and Track, C&D (a few mags, not too sure which) mention the reason why they Honda lowered the red line for the increase in torque and the larger displacement.

Are you aware of the effects and necessary changes to keep equivalent reliability when increasing stroke on a motor?

To some extent. I am certainly no engine designer. I would venture a guess to say that the valve train is not really that big a deal in this case as it is probably pretty similar to the original. The piston speed is not all that great an increase. It would be the same as the original. I am not aware of whether there were any changes to the piston wall surface so I don't know wheter that would be a factor. I would imagine that the bottom end might experience the greatest increase in speed and forces.

Still, I am wondering if this is actually documented or if this is just educated speculation. I mean, hell, when Honda increased the stroke, I would imagine that they dropped the red line for a reason.

I am truly curious as I have seen very little on this subject, not being a smart ass or anything. Although when I read my orignal post I see that it might have been interpreted that way. Sorry, just the way it got written.
