Engine Break-In period
I hit VTEC in mine about 15 minutes after I left the dealer with my brand new '05. It runs strong and perfect. The engine really doesn't need a significant break-in, it's the other driveline components and brakes.
Just no hard launches and no heavy braking for a few hundred miles. Also, no sustained high speed driving either for a few hundred miles.
Other than that, you're just wasting some sweet mileage that you could be spanking the car. I hit redline at least a 100 times before 600 miles and I have not burned a drop of oil and the engine feels perfect.
I break my engines in the way I'm going to drive them and have had great luck now and in the past. My old C5, I beat on from day one, and it dynoed 337rwhp with an intake, cat-back, and headers on an '01 non Z06 model. It also ran 12.29 at 117mph on street tires. A 117mph trap is very, very strong on a IHC C5 Coupe.

Nice edit!
Maybe this will help.
Read the FAQ's
And on any of the serious car maint./info forums, i.e. S2000 talk, UTH, Technical, etc.. Try not to post any misinformation. Do not post 'How to' advice or procedures that you have not personally undertaken or experienced. Try to get along with others, if you do not understand their point, try to get them to explain their point before engaging in rudeness. I apologize for jumping on you for your original post in this thread, I was having a bad day. But please try to understand that this same thread has been duplicated at least 500 times since I've been here, yet ALWAYS, someone shows up with some semi-literate website operated by somebody in Podunk, Alabama, with some "Better Alternative to Factory Recommended Break in" or "Magical Break in Breakthrough gives you 50 Horsepower" (Usually lawnmower/ and bike engines) Yet the did NOT use that break in procedure himself and has absolutely no scientific evidence to back it up.
There are people here seeking REAL advice about their cars, who may not have any automotive background and these posts just confuse the issue tremendously.
Thanks, Mike
My Edit.. Added everything after the '!' in the 1st line.

Really, I'm not trying to be a punk here. What I referenced is certainly not a magical +50hp break in method. It's simply the perspective of some very serious enthusiasts who push their Hondas around a track far, far faster than any of us ever could. I certainly did not recommend following it line by line either; in fact I prefixed it with a disclaimer.
I felt that this perspective is worth reading, especially in the face of magical +50hp methods and recommendations to run full throttle right from the dealer lot (of which at least one has been added between your message and this one). It provides more than a few intelligent counter points and easily understand reasons to follow a gentle procedure.
The previous owner told me he followed the manual for the break in period and I know he baby the car. I took it out on the dragon and then the Zoo drive with other members at NC, came home look at the dipsticks, not a bit of visible drop. I owned the car for almost 10000miles now, after all the driving, I had nothing to worry about!
It really isn't worth anyones time to argue this any further.
Watermelon-FYI,I've read every single one of your posts on S2KI, and I wouldn't take your advice on anything.
I'm glad you didn't have to wait for your birthday.
Quit acting like a troll.
Have a nice day.

Well, I suppose it's good to have the occasional reminder that despite being thoroughly reasonable and even trying to help when possible, some people will still discriminate against you.
