Engine vin
According to the manual for an '02 on pages 250 and 251 (paraphrased):
The VIN is located on the dash. It is also on the Certification label attached to the driver's doorjamb, and is stamped on the engine compartment bulkhead (firewall).
The Engine Number is stamped on the left front corner of the engine block.
That's the best I can do for you.

it's on the rear of the motor near where the trans mounts.
If you want to just read the engine number, it's stamped into the front of the block, right under the valve cover. You can see it easily looking at the engine from the front with the hood open. On the right side under the red cover.

When grinding off the VIN to sanitize the block, don't forget the 2 'hidden' locations.

hey, there's a company in Austrailia that's making these micro-dots that you can aerosol spray onto your stuff... Thieves can't get them all off, and police know how to find them.
Pretty cool. Just read about it in Popular Science, I think.
