Not as stupid as rigging up your trunk to get 600 miles in a S2000. If you drive that much get a fuel efficient car, duh.

I'm going to try and drive across the country and back in my Elise without filling up. I'll fill the insides of the fiberglass clam with extra gas cans

You're neglecting to see the difference between fuel efficiency (what you assume the OP wants) and fuel capacity (what he actually wants.)

If someone wants to drive all over the country where gas stations are few and far between, why would you assume they should buy another car to do it? Why not just find a way to make it work?
