My .02. Why would you have to be dead on? I've driven Ferraris before (never owned) but during the thrill, I never once looked down to see if I was "in the gate." You shift as you normally would. If you shift properly, the car will be in the right gear and the stem will be in the right place.
Just my own experience.

Am I seeing this right? 1st gear is in the down position, and so on? Is that common with Ferraris? I thought it was just Lambo that arranged the car that way.

nope Ferrari also did is on some older models if I'm correct and so did porsche. My friend's dad's 928 is the same way. I never knew it about the porsche until I hopped in and my friend put it in first and I thought to myself "wtf that's 2nd!"
