After reading the thread on the #4 cylinder fiasco and the wide range of electrical failures has me quite worried about what problems we will encounter next (and if my own s2k will be next!). I am a little disappointed that these problems are even occurring. I expected MUCH more out of Honda than this and especially in such a premium car. What's worse is that the worse of these problems (the #4 cylinder) is happening in the '01 models, so they've already been in production for a year. I will be sure to post any problems I have should I have them, currently my car only has less than 800 miles and is less than one month old. So I guess my question is, is it unreasonable for I (or us as a community of s2k owners) to expect complete and total perfection out of this car??

Go read my posts in the other thread.

Honda cast something wrong or made a mistake... It fvcking sucks for those members whom have been affected, but the problem is going to be resolved.

I haven't heard of a single person not getting the problem taken care of without and any *major* hassle (Barry's was the closest, but that doesn't sound to be because of Honda, but his dealer)

IMHO as always.

Yes, you can expect perhaps not perfection, but damn close to it. I have almost 22000 miles, of which 3500 miles or so have taken place on race tracks and another few thousand on hard core punk ass twisties. And I'm not exactly grandma driving around the streets, either. I have not had problem number one. Don't let the problems, serious though they may be, of a relative few, make you paranoid.

My Scarlet runs like a banshee...even better than when I first got her.

I know for a fact that many owners have had the identical experience...and some may chime in here to offer their opinions.

The car IS rock solid...and also remember that autoxEX's problems, though they may very well be what he expects, are not fully diagnosed yet.

But no, not a single problem with my car. Many others will say the exact same thing...

IMO we need to remember this board is a fairly concentrated minority of S2k owners and of those very few in total have had major problems. I know it is severely dissapointing for those owners who have but one must keep things in perspective when 'hanging out' in a community such as this. You can easily find yourself worrying about these things for no good reason

By the same token you would think that such a small sample of owners would not have so many problems.. projected over the full population of S2000's owners the number of individual flaws is quite large. I have guessed that close to 50% of all 2000 models have some sort or transmission or clutch problems. The statistics on this model probably look pretty bad against the Honda norm.

I can pretty much say DITTO"... with the exception that my drivers window has recently started to hiccup going up or down. Also I am pretty sure the 01's are the THIRD year... Japan had the car in 99'. With 16k miles, I don't think I will be having the #4 cylinder problem, and I can say, I do not baby the car... except with mobile1 oil changes and reasonable warm up times.

No panic button, people... there is no reason to be disappointed in Honda. Cars are mechanical devices, and no matter how hard they try, a company can only limit their failure rate... they cannot eliminate it. I think the problems that we have seen are normal for any car. Porsches are considerably more expensive, and they have had engine failures. Honda has done a fine job engineering such a high-strung car that can also pick up goceries without ever going over 5k.

The failures are more noticeable among our group because there are allot of 2001 owners on here. When the cars came out in 2000, these forums had what... 200 people? Not a large cross section. I'm sure there was a similar failure rate. Seems like there are also bad block castings that are porous... Big hairy deal. Manufacturing issue that has surely been cured. Just as this #4 issue will be cured. I think Honda deserves praise for handling these issues well, not criticism for them ever happening. And this is coming from someone who had to deal with a failure! Those of you with no problems have nothing to complain about!

I have to say that Jason and the others are right, we can't expect perfection, but I WANT to so bad. I truly feel that Honda offers the best made vehicle in the world, and for a special car such as this, the problems people have had are just plain NOT ACCEPTABLE. I'm sorry, I do expect more.

My hassle was minor. The service people should have discovered the cooling system problem and the SLIGHT looseness in the steering and fixed it before giving the car back to me. I would not have been the wiser. I just got to be part of the quality assurance team. I kind of enjoyed testing the thermostat, finding the bleeding points for the cooling system, learning about the steering box.

And you know what else? I was patient with the dealer and they were patient with me and when I ask them to check the plugs in 600 miles or whatever, it's going to be fine.

SO, I agree with krazik. Even with my first short block being bad, I'm planning to keep the car and drive this car for a long, long time.

I love it!

Short of the window problem my car has been flawless. Exactly what I expected from a first year automobile. If every one posted that didn't have a problem, it would be chaos!

Don't sweat the little things.
