ok, i did the adjustment and i'm satisfied with what i've done so far. here is what i did

1. take off hardtop
2. take off the plastic molding on each side(4 clips, just yank'em)
3. loosen the three 10mm bolts holding the latch to the hardtop
4. put back on the car
5. lock the front catchers
6. lock the side catchers (it's still loose)
7. tighten the bolts while it's on the car
8. remove the hartop
9. i then drew an outline of where the mounting plate was. then i loosened the bolts and moved the mounting plate 1/4 in above the outline...just eyeballing it.
10. tighten the mounting plate firmly.

and there you go. gap was definetely gone. the leak was minimal. i think shinetsu should get hopefully fix the rest. i heard some creaking but it went away in a short time. it'll do for now. i'm happy with the results. maybe tighten the top even more to 3/8 in if the shinestu doesn't fix it.

side note: my passenger side rubber molding where the window comes in contact with is noticeably larger or "swollen" than the driver's side. you can definetely tell when you close the door. as if the pressure from the window stretched it out a bit. does anyone else have this problem?
