Lol it's funny how people can bitch Honda with bunch of other lists CR should have come with, yet say IF Honda does it and ask for 50k, they will be "I ain't paying no 50k for a Honda."
I think Honda should just call it a day and close the books on the S2k!!!

Seriously. The CR is a joke, a stupid JOKE. They put some extra parts from the ap1, a small frame behind the seat, and took a FEW parts off, MAGIC? Hardly.
The s2k is a superb car, the CR is a barely modified street car. It is NOT in the same caliber as any decent Track car on the market. The Marketing fools win again, and the proof is the CR. What is missing:
Fixed-caliper brakes.
Rear vented brakes.
Functional brake intakes.
Racing seats.
Racing wing and spoiler, and if you think what they gave us is, you are lost.
Oversized wheel flares.
More horsepower/gearing.
Evo/VW paddle shifters. Faster under every condition.
Racing quality rims.
Racing-legal roll bar.
Racing exhaust.
Give me a break. The CR cannot compete with ANYTHING other than the miata. Every other manufacturer has raised the ante. Why not Honda? Because they are asleep.

Seriously, paddles? C'mon man.

But how about this? Take the 3 or 4 thousand extra that Honda charges for ripping out the top and pasting on the flying wing and instead, put it into a factory installed and warrantied SC?
Maybe upgrade the diff to support the newly found HP?
And, here's the icing...don't rip out the class defining rag, don't rip out the AC, don't rip out the radio, don't rip out the spare, and keep the Lee's glue-on wing back in the anime cartoon studio?
As individuals, we can put in a SC and a diff for a bit more money, but with Honda's volume, they could get a deal on the production and make a car that gives some thing extra for the 3 or 4k (rather than taking something away). Hell, they could charge 5 to 6k for it.
Yes, all the other stuff would be nice. But the core boils down to power and HP. The rest of the stuff simply supports the core.
For those that don't think it's about the HP, then I have an idea for Honda targeting you as a buyer:
Release the Honda s2000 CRv2.
Put a smaller engine in it (sacrificing about 100hp), yet offering a Grrreeeaaaat (think tony the tiger) lower weight appeal and shining on those twistys, and sell it for an 8k premium.
I just don't get how they can sell less for more?
I don't care if they still make this car, it was not a consideration when i got mine.
In perspective to all the cars out there, 0-60 in less than 6 seconds is faster than 95% of the cars out there. In perspective to many other traits the car has, handling, better than 95%, cost and upkeep, better than most, hp output based on engine size, better...oh....how many n/a 4 cyl cars can put out 240 hp from a 2.0 or 2.2 lt? then there is the gearbox, better than 95% of the cars out there, then there is the pricepoint of entry, etc....better than most.
so for me, the car , even though not evolvec to the point some may like, is still better than 95% of the cars out there, after 10 years of production and a very limited model run, from a company known for it's great engines, bikes, lawnmowers, leafblower, ship engines, and economy cars...etc...
I am still impressed whenever i get into mine, that as i look out at 90-95% of the cars on the highway or parking lot, yes even those with a starter button...I continue to have a limited production 4 cyl roadster with most of the bells and whistles that goes like stink and i enjoy very much, a car i can track right out of the box and enjoy as a DD.
No worries mate, the S2000 is a gem amoung grains of sand.

With regard to the long list of things like widened wheel wells, paddle shifters, more HP, bigger brakes, and all the other stuff you mentioned. Exactly what class would you run in?? Right now, I can run my CR in the same stock class as a stock S2000. I have a significant advantage over a stock S, according to Sports Car Magazine (read SCCA), by almost two(2) full seconds around Mid Ohio. That's extraordinary by any standards given the limited number of changes.
You guys always talk about Super chargers and turbo chargers for track use or autocross. You're nuts!! The only class you could run in would be A Mod. This translates into unlimited budgets and v-8's with unlimted HP and Formula One suspensions/ brakes. I don't know about you, but I go to play and have fun with a reasonable expectation of placing in my class. Having my old butte blown off the track by a well prepared A-Mod car is not my idea of fun. Why dream build a car that doesn't have a class to race in, have a reasonable chance of doing well or advancing your skill sets??
For the money you pay for the CR it is an exceptional value.
Ruprecht,
I bet you still haven't driven one yet have you??? You should be ashamed of yourself and I think I will tell your mother that you don't play well with others. Bad Ruprecht and Intj.

The only thing i don't like about the CR is it doesn't have a roll bar from the factory. Oh a "club racer" I cant actually "race" at any "club"(s).
Thats the joke here, the rest of you are just bitching to read your own text.
$0.02

Actually the CR roll bar/ brace is approved for open track days. It is not approved for wheel to wheel racing IE: SCCA or NASA. Honda never said it was ready to go all out racing. They made a car that you could drive to the track, have a good day at a high performance driving day/ school, and drive home. Period. I know a lot of guys that buy a brand new Porsche GT3 Cup car and then go completely through it before they ever race it just to make sure it is set up the way they want it. Further, if it was set up for racing, it would be even worse than the CR to drive on the street. IMHO, the CR is right on the edge of being a kidney buster. However, I am an old fart.
If Honda made a full up race car, you can be sure everyone would do the very same thing. If the converse was true, you wouldn't have six different manufacturer's of springs, bars, shocks, brakes, and exhausts. There would be one manufacturer that made the perfect ultimate setup and everyone else would go out of business. Everyone tells you they have the best setup and then you get to roll the dice and see if everything works together well to make a well balanced car.
You know what, I don't have to screw around with any of it. I bought a car that Honda put a lot of engineering and R&D time into it's development. I don't have to play Russian roulette with a half dozen different manufacturers to get the right set up and then post the things that didn't work in the classifieds for another sucker.
I have a well developed and beautifully handling car right out of the box that will challenge my skill sets for a long time. Better yet, I have a 36 month/ 36K mile warranty on a track ready car. I bet you don't get that when you put all of that aftermarket untested together "stuff" on your car.
Find something new to complain about, this is getting old. I constantly feel like some dog is dry humping my leg when I hear you guys complaing about my CR.
