Default Help With Aftermarket Clutch

My stock clutch just gave out at 61,000 Miles. I am in need of a new Set up so far I have a budjet of 1,000 dollars. I have looked into the ACT HD PP, Street Disc and Comptech Flywheel from www.hopupracing.com my car is completely stockand will be for another year at least. I am just looking for some updated info on this setup or any recommendations reguarding a different clutch and flywwheel combo...Thanks for your time........John

Thanks Kane. BTW good write up on the competition clutch. I have always been a fan of your store and the line of products you sell. I am looking into the stage 3 kit that you are offering. Is there anything wrong with putting a stage 3 in with out any mods? I was told by a mechanic that if I put in a puck style or high powered clucth that I can destroy my transmission and my diff? I do autocross and this is my Dailey driver so witch setup would you recomend from the Competition Clutch brand?

There's nothing wrong with it at all but you can get away with just the stage 2 which would give you more clutch life. The stage 2 already has phenominal grip regardless so it doesn't even matter.

What would be more damaging than a puck style is a unsprung disc. If it's unsprung there's no dampening on the disc so the brute force gets transmitted down the line. However all Competition Clutch brand clutches are sprung. Also if you have a ton of HP and you have a clutch that doesn't hold the power...that is also not a bright idea since you'll just burn through clutches every other day. You should always go with a clutch that is appropriet for your application and not go too extreme. This will give you maximum gains and the same performance.

Exactly. Putting a stage 3 clutch on a car that has 160lb/ft is not the best idea. Clutches are measured in how many lb/ft it can take (not hp)...so a stock car can even use a stage 1 without a problem. A stage 2 is a perfect balance, and if you ever decide to upgrade, youll have a clutch that can hold it. A stage 3 is a waste for you.
