The carpet looks good, very similar to the one I made.
The noodle's purpose is to stop the folded window from rubbing plastic-on-plastic. So it just needs to go anywhere between the folded plastic so that it creates a gap big enough so the plastic won't rub.
Personally I didn't use a noodle. I think most of the scratches come from the window rubbing on the tray. As long as you use the mat and keep the plastic window clean I don't think it will get much scratching from the folded window.

Ok great. That's been my observation too these last few cycles of the top. Plus, when I cleaned with the Novus for what might have been the first time in the car's life, the inside was where all the hazing/scratching was. I'll leave out the noodle for now.
