Help Please! Need to convince parents....
[QUOTE=C U AT 9K,May 2 2005, 04:16 PM] to answer the kids question no one can help you dude.
to what everyone else is sayin... if your parents offer it, then you can, and nobody here has the right to criticize just cause you had to work full time when you were a teen.

Ha ha ha... First of all, thanks guys, this post has been most entertaining to read. What a good way to start off the week
Second of all, to the original poster, if you are a real person with a real question (which I seriously doubt...), where are you? Did you find what you were looking for by posting on this forum?
Third of all, while some people do, I don't really have any problem with his parents wanting to spend $30k on a 17 year old kid. I have problems with his parents wanting to put a 17 year old kid into an S2000. I don't care if it cost $5, putting a 17 year old kid who is on his way to college into an S2000 IS irresponsible and stupid. It's tantamount to handing a loaded weapon to an inexperienced marksman, and justifying it by saying "not EVERY person accidentally shoots another person." If you're looking for a way to blow $30k quickly, look for a car more suitable for your needs. Get an A4 wagon, or a G35 sedan, or (god help me) any flavor SUV
. You'll find their capabilities will probably suit your needs for the next 4 years better than a 2-seat convertible will.
Just my $.02

Its too easy to neglect something if you did not actually pay for it. Not to mention I think its pretty lame when a person tells me their parents bought "their" car for them. I can understand if your parents pass a Taurus down to you or something, but when it comes to a nice car, you really need to buy that on your own to truly appreciate it.
not to mention respect it.
I'm 21 now, and my parents bought me a car... an 86 FIERO!!!!! 800 dollars to be exact.... a kid that went to my high school had an 00 spa yellow and i fell in love... well, i got a job and saved my a55 off and i now drive a my04.... SAVE SAVE SAVE!!!!

And believe me I'm not your typical 18 year old gear head either, I will be saving my parents nearly 40k a year as I will be attending UM in the fall on a full academic scholarship.

Actually, you sound more like an irresponsible 18-year old gear head than you think. You're saving *yourself* $40k/year. Your parents don't owe it to you to pay the tab...
What I like most about this post is how this tool describes about having his PARENTS buy HIM this car. All this example of 'natural selection' can see is what he 'desires'. What a spoiled brat! His parents should buy him a James Dean Porsche.

Allright, I know that I will be criticized, But I do want to mention that I am an 18 Year old with an S2000, and I have had it since I was 17. Yes My parents did buy it for me. I would just like to add, that the statement above is the truth. I have been finding that lately, the car has been seeming to become quite impractical. With the realization that I will be going to college in the coming months, and I really have no need for the vehicle. Yes it is a gorgeous car, yes it is an amazing ride, and yes it is very fun to drive, but when it comes down to it, I have no need for the vehicle. I believe that I am better off with a coupe or sedan. The car is not for somebody who will be using it as their daily driver, And I would like to challenge somebody to move out of their house and into a college dorm with just the S2000. Yeah right.
Also, It will be a B!^&# to pay for the gas. It needs to be fed premium gas, and if you are getting one with the bridgestone potenza's, try to afford the cost of replacing them every oh 10K-15K miles! It's Great! <--*Sarcasm* oh yeah, and I forgot to add the wonderful price of insurance on a teenager with a sportscar!
Any way, I believe that the S will become more of a burden than being fun for somebody who is still in the process of being schooled, and does not have a very steady income.
so, now, the older members may criticize me for having one.

I highly doubt that internet "friends" will ever convince a teenager to NOT get a new car (from his/her parents). What I would hope is that someone could be convinced that an S2000 is a terrible car for a teenager, especially one going to college.
Go ahead, let your parents buy you a car. Get an expensive one, just be practical and smart about it. There is simply no need to drive an S2000 in college. Again, an Audi A4 seems like a perfect car for the college kid.
Finally, the original poster is still a little retard for thinking he could talk about getting into a wreck, blame someone else for it, and think he's going to get sympathy from strangers. I almost feel like whatever car this kid ends up with will spell disaster for society as a whole. We'll either be burdened with his complaints about this or that (keyed car, speeding tix), or all have to take the insurance increase when he kills himself or someone else.
In closing:
spoiled douche + nice car = who cares
douche + any car = who cares
spoiled douche + bad attitude + fancy car = go sit in the corner, shut the
