Honda Reliability?
MY05, 4500 miles. Only problems are 1) defective fuel gauge (had new sending unit put in; gauge seems more reliable, although it did get stuck on full for almost 100 miles!!, but then corrected itself. 2) the rear bumper is a bit pulled away from the point where it meets the body on the side. Having that looked at today.
I can see where this thread is headed. This sort of topic used to come quite regularly. It's probably reached another "cycling" phase. The following may help to save some posting and time:

Mine is an '00 and will be 5 years old this fall. I have had nothing major (or minor for that matter) go on it. It is a daily (including some of the harshest winters that any S2000 will ever endure) driven car as well as having been supercharged for the last 2 years. I've just completed a 3500 mile driving vacation in it and it didn't so much as hiccup along the way. The car has never failed me or given me cause for alarm (except for some of the mods that I did on it).
Sure, there have been reported "lemons" on this forum, as I'm sure there are with almost any car you can imagine (have you seen the comments of the Benz M class?). Besides, if you ask a targetted question, it is entirely possible that those with bad cars will find this thread and post. You could even see an inordinate number of such postings. Will this represent a real world % of bad S2000s? I think not. People with trouble free cars are not as likely to respond as those with "lemons". That is to say, if you get 10 good reports in this thread and then you see 1 bad one, this doesn't necessarily mean that 10% of all S2000s in the world have been lemons.
If yo want to be reassured that Honda and the S2000 is the most reliable out there, you will be sadly disappointed. On the other hand, it won't be anywhere near the bottom of the list, either.
edit: I lied. My window reg did the same as what has been reported further down this thread. No big deal for me. I installed a 50 buck (gift to me) Autoloc and fixed it easily. Now I also have auto-UP. I considered this little problem to have been a "good thing" as it helped me discover a really neat device.

I've owned my '00 for five years and nine months, since Sep 1999. I've put 77k miles on it, with many of them track/autocross miles. It's been on two ~4000 mile road trips. I've taken it camping.
It's never let me down.
Four years and only one small problem. The padding in the seat bolster on the outside edge of the driver's seat somehow got "wadded up" a bit. Probably due to my fat butt! In any event, replaced free by the dealer.
The only other item for comment here was the fact that the OEM SO2 tires were worn out after about 10K miles. But I learned from this board that this was not a defect, but just the result of high performance tires and an aggressive alignment.
Thanks,
Richard

I've owned my '02 for over two and a half years and it has never been to the shop. (I've done all the fluid changes myself.) I also have a Honda Odyssey and two Acuras in the driveway with over 250,000 combined miles. (Do I sound like a Honda commercial?) Other than routine wear and maintenance items at expected intervals (rotors, pads, batteries, alignments, etc.), all of them have been consistently reliable and trouble-free.
