Default HOOD PINS - HELP!

I have on order a CF - TS Hood from Seibon that will be painted to match my car except for the air vents (I really like this look) . I do not want to put Hood Pins through this new hood because I don't like the looks. I will be driving fast from time to time. Seibon insists hood pins r required or I could have it blow up in my face. Please help me with any advice . Also If I do have to go with pins - any suggestions. Thanks.

I would think to avoid liabilities there is a clause that states that any aftermarket CF hood requires hood pins and Seibon is no exception.

The reality is that most people don't use them. The CF hood weighs about the same as OEM.

I've had hood pins before and they look good when done right but they're more of a pain in the ass if it's purely cosmetic.

My advice.......I wouldn't use hood pins.

But it's your car.......

You do not need hood pins for "style" hoods. Its all bling if you do use them. You actually can get away with not using them on the J's Racing and Mugen hoods as well. When you get to the lighter hoods such as Amuse/Cwest they recommend you use hoodpins due to the fact that a little gust of wind can rip off your 2 pound hood.

Good luck.

I am glad to hear that u think no pins r needed and that it is just for looks. However I just recently talked to the Seibon distributor and he also insists pins r need for safety. I am still mixed, do I add them for safety or pease of mind or do I stay with what I really wanted and no pins. I will be at a road course in about 3 weeks where I will push 110-125 Any body know where the hood blowed up in someones face?

SIIK2NR is correct.

What Seibon may tell you and what I believe are two different animals.
The "style" hoods weigh more than OEM hoods. Unless the "style" hood is put together really bad then you do not need them.

If your going to push the car over 125mph on a regular basis then I would get the pins for safety and peace of mind. For daily driving (staying under 70mph) you wont need them.
I have been through a VIS OEM style hood (no pins), 2 Fiber Image OEM style hoods (no pins), J's Racing Type S hood (no pins), and a J's Racing Type V hood (no pins) and have been just fine with no pins at speeds over 100mph.
If your in doubt get them...
Thanks 4 your experienced opinion. I am going without the pins unless someone else can convince me otherwise.

Yeah this is a tuff subject for me also I don't want to get the CF hood cause I don't want pins, but I also don't want to drive my car constantly thinking if the hood is going to come up on me
