I am TOTALLY confused by this debate.

Is there a more definitive answer to this question available? Or is this one of those things that will be debated until the end of time as there is no correct answer?

I was taught to slow manual cars by downshifting/matching revs. I usually downshift to 2nd and then put the car in neutral as I coast to the final stop. If there is a Honda document that says I should be shifting differently, please link me to it as I would consider that definitive.

Brake pads & rotors are ALWAYS easier to replace than a clutch,& USUALLY cheaper to replace,ALSO.
So what? Engine braking doesn't cause clutch wear. It's probably possible to avoid making totally irrelevant comments by reading the entire thread before posting.

This "debate" is a textbook case of "ask a stupid question; get a (few hundred) stupid answer(s)".

I asked a stupid question....? By all the confusion going on here it and red_mx5's post im pretty sure alot of people actually learned something and I look at it as a successful thread. This is obviously a topic people dont know alot about so I dont really consider it a stupid question.

I'm always happy to learn. If just using the brakes is what I ought to be doing, perhaps it's worth changing. . I happened to find a post on another site I frequent that has some interesting lessons.

Proper manual driving technique

The question is relevant to me as I just bought my S2K on Friday and have just started driving manuals after a ten-year hiatus. I pleasantly found I'm not very rusty at all. I am just interested in the proper technique.

Yes.

The method used to decelerate the car depends entirely on the reason WHY you are decelerating the car and the situation WHERE you are doing it. You use different methods for just brushing off a bit of speed in order to weight the front wheels, coming to a stop at a stop sign, slowing down for a stoplight that might turn green, panic braking because a deer just jumped into the road, coming off the front straight at 130 and heading into a 70 mph sweeper, slowing down on an icy road, etc., etc.

Thanks Mike. Now I feel stupid for trying to provide answers.

And a good percent people have explained what they would do in each situation, or what should be done in situation X.

Not that your answers weren't entertaining and IMO generally correct. It's just that ill-posed questions are frustrating.
