I've just turned 21, but I won't make the claims you guys have. My parents haven't paid a cent towards my cars, but they have helped me in so many other ways. Always there for advice, helped me get started on my career, put up with me living in their house for 18 years, fed me, raised me.

So yeah, I'm impressed with some of you who can afford a $30,000 sports car at your age. I couldn't have. I will also give respect to some of the older folks here, who have also earned their position in life and the things they own. And even when I'm 60, regardless of my income or what's in my garage, I'll still think I owe the majority of it to my parents.

Done being preachy, I was and am pretty irresponsible sometimes. The one wreck I've ever been involved in was road maintenance and weather related(not to minimize my fault, I was the final and sole cause of the wreck, just don't tell my insurance co.) If you guys can honestly say you never break any road laws in your S2000, you may deserve it more than I do.

My spelling sucks too, but I don't worry about it. I do the best I can, and if people don't like it that's not really my problem. I'm dyslexic, so when somebody rags me about my spelling I always have an option to bag them for picking at a guy with a handicap, but I usually just let it slide. If someone needs to put down people for their spelling to feel good about themselves I can let them do so without getting upset about it, which is what I usually do (unless some moron wants to run it into the ground).

I have never met an engineering major from Georgia Tech that had a clue about grammar or spelling, so it's not necessairly a sign of ignorance. All it means is that one never learned grammar or spelling as well as they might have, and the reasons for that shortfall are rarely known.

As for these horrible kids today, I guess their perfect parents who never did anything crazy as kids have nothing at all to do with the way their kids turned out. Maturity really means accepting responsiblity, and those who slam the kids without accepting responsiblity for their own kids and/or their own childhood, are only exhibithing their own immaturity. Anytime anyone puts you down, always consider the source. Most of the time, once the source is considered, it's just not worth worrying about.

This is one of the reasons why we stereotype young people (teens).

Interesting observation.

I think there were intended qualifiers that simply got omitted (but of course I'm only guessing ). Given the context, the meaning seems clear, even without the qualifiers. "I really hate how everyone (who stereotypes teens) stereotypes teens." Better yet, the OP might have said something like, "I really hate the way some people stereotype teens." Still, no matter how it was stated we all know exactly what "everybody" means in this context, and since it only applies to everyone in a particular group (the group that exhibits the behavior), we all know whether we're in the group or not. Since the behavior defines the group it isn't really stereotyping. It's like saying that people who don't have a job are unemployed or retired.

Actually, everyone misuses the word "everyone" every once in a while.
At the very least, most of us do use absolutes inappropriately at times.

Kids are, and always have been, what they were taught to be, either by their parents, teachers, or peers. What I'd like to understand is where the generation that had no childhood came from, and how they ever managed to become fully functional adults.

I was 16 when I bought my S. I saved up and put a $1000 down payment on it. My parents got me a loan, $434 a month for 60 months. I pay them every month. I just turned 17, and I've done some nice modding to it. I work two jobs, starbucks and a daycare. And I keep a 3.66 GPA.

Hopefully no spelling errors from me

Oh, and while I haven't been to AutoX, I don't drive my car like I have. Everyone at school asks me how fast I've gone (101) and how many times I've launched 'er (none), and EVEN how many times I drift (0) or do donuts (once). And they get dissapointed with my answers. Just because we're young, doesn't make us immature and not know how to drive a car. Though a lot of teens suck at driving. When I was a junior last year, about 10 juniors toatled their cars in two weeks.

'Can't wait to move on to College and get my internship at a VC! Keep up the good work guys!
