You need a gun for self defense? How quaint...
Yeah. Whats wrong with that?

Two people in Florida were murdered in their own home last week when someone broke into their house and shot them dead.

Just because you choose not to carry, don't judge someone that chooses to exercise their 2nd admendment rights.

on the flip side of your post, if even one person at VAtech had been carrying concealed legally he/she could probably have put a bullet in the shooter before he did nearly as much damage.
Or they could have killed the original shooter and nailed 4 other people in the process. Either way, you have a kid with a gun and that's a bad combination.

You are far too many days behind to chime in

All I can add is that I would hate to live somewhere where I thought I needed to carry a gun or knife to feel safe.

lol, this thread has derailed slightly huh? the thing about the gun/anti-gun argument is that its always the same. im choosing not to participate because i already know what will happen.

anti-gun: if guns were outlawed there would be less crime

gun-friendly: if guns were outlawed criminals would still obtain them, since when have criminals obeyed the law

anti-gun: but guns kill blah blah people every year

gun-friendly: guns dont kill people, people kill people

anti-gun: but if those people didn't have access to a gun, they couldn't have shot anyone

gun-friendly: if someone wants to kill someone, they will find a way to do it, not having access to a gun won't stop them

...and on and on..

i've never convinced any anti-gun people that guns aren't all bad and they've never convinced me they are. i've actually never seen anyone swayed by the above argument that happens everytime the subject is brought up. im gonna have to agree with 3ngin33r1 that it would be refreshing to see a different point of view, but not just from one side, from both. until then, its deja vous all over again!

I'm from Australia. We used to have regulated gun licensing (no hand guns though) but the laws are much tighter now. If we ever wanted to forcibly over throw the government we'd have to do it with sticks.

We also hold the record for the most killings by a single gun man. Martin Bryant killed 35 and wounded 37 at Port Arthur in 1996.

So yes, only criminals have guns now (oh, and Police and Security Guards and anyone who really wants one).

But the proof is in the stats. You have lots of guns and lots of gun violence. We have fewer guns and far fewer episodes of gun violence.

I know where I'd rather live, even under this oppressive monarchy.

yeah but thats because you have enough ways to die in australia already. sharks, box jellies, cone snails, salt water crocs, a few dozen poisonous snakes whats the average lifespan anyway, 39?

im not surprised the instances of gun violence have decreased. what i would be interested in seeing is what difference it has made in violent crimes, burglaries, muggings, etc.

There's also only 20,434,176 in Oz and 301,139,947 in the US so the violent crime rates should be adjusted accordingly.

I'm not anti-gun and I'm not pro-gun and this argument went right where I said it would. Yes you have the right to do it and I have the right to walk everywhere with a shovel and a battle axe but there's not much point in doing it.
