Longest Road Trip in your S2000?
Longest road trip in the S2k was 800 miles, and thankfully, it was one way! Our late December, 2011 move from Okla. City, OK to our new home in Durango, CO. We didn't like OK much (understatement) for reasons I shan't go into here. We were very glad to get out of OK and into, shall I say, a more open minded environment. I had long had visions of taking the S2k across the border out of OK for the last time at 150+ mph. But when the time came, I was pretty ill with the flu. A friend had to drive. But my friend had her up well over 130 at the border. Now, there are nine months of top down weather.
One thing I noticed on this trip was a wind noise where the top meets the windshield frame (top part) that began at about 110. If anybody knows how I can fix that, I' appreciate a heads up.
I was in the S2K passenger seat, which everybody says is uncomfortable. Actually, it wasn't all that bad.
And, to answer a question earlier on this thread, my S2K always gets over 30 mpg on the highway cruising at over 100 mph. Almost always better than at 55. Doesn't make sense, and I don't know why.

It's not just speed by itself that determines fuel economy. Granted, a given speed may be most efficient for a given vehicle but there's no magic speed for all vehicles. Other factors are certainly at play as well. I find 30+ fairly easy when it's truly a 100% highway tank with little to no stops.
Some of the Oregon group and I did the trip down to Homecoming II and then over to Vegas before coming back home.
I think it worked out to be almost 2800 miles in 6 days.
The girlfriend and I did a trip from Oregon to Colorado and back which was 2500 miles in 6 days.

I drove from southern MD to Long Island and back in one day. Only stopped to watch Billman work his magic for about 3-4hrs then went on my way. The problem was I left on a Saturday morning around 1am and didn't get back until 8pm that same day. I didn't get any sleep after work Friday so I was up for well over 36hrs straight
it was well worth the trip though

23 hour drive straight from San Antonio Texas to Southern California in 1 day, only stopped for gas and drive thru food. After that drive my back problems for a few days for staying still in one spot for so long.
I'm surprised at the amount of people who haven't gone on long trips in their S. I drove from Houston, to Roswell, to Tucson, to Sedona, AZ on a 3 day trip. Drove around Sedona for a week, then drove out to Amarillo, then back to Houston. 10 day trip, 3200 miles give or take. I'm on Megan Track coilovers, and I have to say, I never once got uncomfortable in the car, even on the days where we drove 10+ hours. The S2K definitely makes road trips fun. A little impractical, but it makes you think, and its more fun not having a bunch of crap crammed in the car. I averaged 34mpg on the highways, got 500 miles per tank with the top up and A/C on.
First leg of the trip, when we arrived at the hotel in Roswell.

This was somewhere near the NM/AZ border.

That's all the pictures I have of my car on the trip. I got too caught up in enjoying myself.

I was scheduled to drive to homecoming but had to fly due to work reasons. I know a handful of people drove from the east coast. such as...

All things equal (not drafting, not coasting downhill), a car will burn considerably more fuel per mile to maintain 100mph than it does at 50mph. Yeah, it may be moving twice as fast, but it may require three times the fuel. But because there is a fixed amount of energy in a gallon of gasoline, if the energy required to maintain speed is increasing exponentially, the mpg cannot be sustained at higher speeds.
My personal observation (and many others can back this up) is that an S2000 is capable of low to mid 20s when traveling on flat and level ground at 80+mph.
Here's an article that explains the formulas at work:
