low on oil!
Oil consumption will be determined a great deal by how you drive.
Some factors to take into consideration.
1. How was the car "broke In". Now thats a loaded question on this web site, because some people here will tell you to break this car in the way you will drive it from day one.
Personally, I don't think thats a good idea, Even a new "S" can have been abused if the dealer lets someone "test" drive it at v-tec before proper break-in. Follow factory spec breakin.
2. How often do you change oil? I believe the oil in the "S' is designed to aid in break-in and needs changed at the factory spec time, by miles.
If you changed it out for some other variety of oil to early, or didn't change it al all, it can create problems. IMHO
3. Have you ever "overfilled" your oil?
It is easier to do than you may think, and can cause significant problems.
4. How often do you check your oil? Most people here will reccomend you check at every gas fill. I usaully do, but in five years of ownership, only 1 quart has been added.
5. Do you change your own oil? All too often DIY's change oil and reuse the drain plug gasket seal. This is a "crush" ring that fits under the drain plug and seals the plug when torqued properly.
For the original poster: Now that you have had a significant drop in oil level, you may experience additional oil consumption, depending on if enough oil was getting to the top of the engine. I reccomend keeping a detailed record of you oil consumption. At least for the next few months, check oil levels before starting your car - everytime. I know, it is a pita. But you want to know just how bad your problem is. If you are adding a quart every 3000 or less, or if you see the consumption increasing significantly, you will want to take it to a Honda certified tech. Also, you may want to have it checked out anyway. If you see any oil on the ground or garage floor where you park, it may be as simple as a bad drain seal.
OK, flame suit on -
